I know both!
Europeans tend to pronounce it "lewie" and Americans I've heard pronounce it Lewis

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/06/2008 13:43

Meet me in St Louis !

heronsfly · 16/06/2008 13:43

my friends ds has this name, she pronounces it as Louie, gets very cross if his called lewis

NoNickname · 16/06/2008 13:44

Pronounced Louie definitely. If you want to pronounce it Lewis, use Lewis

castille · 16/06/2008 13:44

I've heard both, but I know lots of French Louis and one British one and they are all pronounced Louie.

desperatehousewifeintraining · 16/06/2008 13:44

We have a Louis and it is pronounced Louie

throckenholt · 16/06/2008 13:45

louis is the French way - Lewis hte American way.

I would say Lewee is left to my own devices.

Belgianchox · 16/06/2008 14:02

Mine is Louie

piratecat · 16/06/2008 14:03

loo eee

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 16/06/2008 14:04

Louis is a French name and so should have the French pronunciation - Lou-ee. But I did know one boy called Lewis (or so I thought) and did a double-take when I saw it written down as Louis.

keevamum · 16/06/2008 14:05

Mine is Louie pronounced loo eee and she's a girl...just to confuse matters.

funnypeculiar · 16/06/2008 14:06

I know one of each. I would on balence expect someone who wanted to have their child called Lewis to call them, um, Lewis

Brightfield · 16/06/2008 14:07

Mine is Lou-ee. The correct way.

Tortington · 16/06/2008 14:07

loo -ee is louis

lewis is erm...lewis

funnypeculiar · 16/06/2008 14:08

Sorry, the one of each is one pronounced Lewis & one pronounced Louie

Alishanty · 16/06/2008 14:11

I know a Louis who pronounces it Lewis but I prefer the proper way of Lewis and Louis (Louee).

pagwatch · 16/06/2008 14:14

Louis IS Lou ie !
Lewis is lewis.

( a clear note for all the numbskulls who call my DS1 lewis. If I wanted to call him Lewis I farkin well would have called him Lewis !!)

MrsTittleMouse · 16/06/2008 14:14

zippitippitoes · 16/06/2008 14:14

MONKEYMONKEY · 16/06/2008 14:28

Louie

Minkus · 16/06/2008 14:45

Thanks all I'd hoped it was Lou-ee but someone confused me the other day when they pronounced it Lewis.

It's now top of my list!

It has to be Louie. If you want Lewis then call them Lewis. I know a Louis who has his name pronounced 'Lewis' and he is constantly having to explain.
