I am stuck on two names (they both have middle name listed) Please tell me what sounds most stand out and memorable..and what name will be the least regrettable.

Calista Skye Or Lexie Rose

I like Callie-Skye rather than Calista

Personally I would go for Alexandra Rose and call her Lexie for short. Alexandra is a beautiful name and gives her loads of options for shortenings when she grows up. (A lot of people - myself included - hit a point in teenage years when you want to “reinvent yourself”. Being able to because Alex rather than Lexie helps with that.)

I would say that though - Alexandra was my girl’s name for ds. (He would have been Ally for short.)

Changed my mind - I agree with this

Sounds like a cheap body spray aimed at tweens.

timoteigirl · 15/02/2026 11:35

Callie-Skye is the type of name that many MNetters would call chavvy.

Calista Skye. I would think of Clint Eastwood's partner Calista Flockhart and the Scottish Island. Lexie is more like a pet name to me.

You mean Harrison Ford 😁

Unless there's something we don't know Grin

CeciliaMars · 15/02/2026 13:50

Calista much nicer than Lexie

BigFishLittleFishCardboardBoxes · 15/02/2026 14:38

Lexie Rose is awful, every girl is a ‘something’ Rose (or May or Grace). Lexie is often thought of on mn as chavvy.

I like Calista.

Myoldbear · 15/02/2026 14:45

Another vote for Alexandra, then there are many options later which could include Lexie or not.

user1492757084 · 16/02/2026 03:01

Skye Calista 9/10
Skye Alexandra 9/10
Alexandra Rose 8/10
Rose Alexandra 8/10
Rose Calista 8/10

roshi42 · 16/02/2026 05:34

Once again, mumsnet is so hide bound and boring when it comes to names. People saying give her a ‘classic’ name… Callista is Greek, she was a nymph - how much more classic can you get?

TheClangyClunk · 16/02/2026 06:56

Is the emphasis on the first syllable in Callista?

HugoThatway · 16/02/2026 10:24

@TheClangyClunk , the middle syllable. Ca-LIS-ta not CAL-is-ta.

Tonissister · 16/02/2026 10:27

Alexandra Rose is gorgeous. Lexi is a nn. I'd always give a child the option of the more classic full name.

I don't like Callista. It sounds like calliper to me - a metal brace for a lame leg.

Skye is pretty.

SlenderRations · 16/02/2026 10:29

middle names don’t really matter. No one says them so I don’t really understand why there is so much focus on them on Mn.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/02/2026 10:29

Fair Grin

HugoThatway · 16/02/2026 10:56

@SlenderRations , Because on MN the middle name has to be one syllable, preferably Rose (or James for a boy), and most names with a filler middle name are 'gorgeous'.

The first name must be a few syllables and have multiple diminutives or nicknames, and these can be ones that are quite a stretch.

The emphasis is to find a name that fits these criteria. The OP's baby girl gets named Alexandriana Rose Kimber and poor Lexi goes through life with jokes about Legs Akimbo.

And due to there being such diversity in names, absolutely no children will poke fun at another child's name will they.

Thanks, I wondered if it was one of those names like Athena, where Brits pronounce it in a way that doesn't match the Greek.

HugoThatway · 16/02/2026 11:07

Athena is quite similar in English and Greek. One is Ath-EEN-a, the other more like Ath-INN-a.

The ones that are different are ones like Penelope, Irene, Eleni and Olympia.

I think the Greek tend to stress the next -to-last syllable unless there's an accent on the letter but don't take my word for it.

Rockyhorrors · 16/02/2026 13:45

both are absolutely dreadful.

CurlewKate · 16/02/2026 14:25

LOVE Rose!

I’d go with Alexandra Rose, shortened to Lexi.

alexdgr8 · 16/02/2026 14:42

My theory as to why MN people on these threads big up flakey names.
So that later in life they can look down on parents who chose those names. Secretly despising them for their lack of taste while being ever so naice to their face.

Firebird83 · 16/02/2026 22:14

Callista nn Callie

Crispynoodle · 16/02/2026 22:33

Lexie is short for Alexandra which is lovely am not going to lie I love both names!

mathanxiety · 17/02/2026 01:24

Calista Skye is lovely.

Lexie Rose is extremely regrettable.
