We're days away now from welcoming our third and just can't fix on a final name for our surprise gender baby. Which would you choose for a boy/girl?!

Sol is often short for Solomon (Solly). Religious name for some people. I’d probably avoid but it might depend where you live.

Like both boy names but really dislike both girl names!

I'm the opposite. Like both Stella & Nancy but not Rudy or Sol !

Sol or Stella (but I admit I like Solomon better).

Is Sol short for Solomon? Solly’s cute

Sol and Stella = 🍺 yes

Like both your girl names

Rudy is just - rude

Rudy is not an attractive name in English and I'd avoid it unless you have strong German roots. It falls a bit into the category of trendy British people using names from non British countries to appear different or unique like when people name their child Luca or Matteo instead of Lucas or Matthew. As someone who isn't British, and probably controversial but idc - when people do this I immediately think they're a bit of a knob. It's also just not a nice sounding name in English.

It also isn't as uncommon as you probably think - I know quite a few in baby groups around me, and I also know a lot of baby Ruben's, your child will invariably probably end up with the nickname of Rue, the same nickname all the Ruben's get, and they'll be one of five Rue's in their class at school 🤷‍♀️ if you're picking this name because you think its really unique, I promise you it isn't

I think it's quite an international name. I've only ever known two, one is Bulgarian and the other is South African. I also like the Rue or Roo potential for a nickname!

Did none of your Rudy haters watch Misfits?!

SUCH a great character.

In terms of Sol... My name is really unusual - like, not even top 4,000 in the UK - and sounds like it should be short for something, though no one is quite sure what. I've never been bothered by people asking what it's short for.

I've always loved having an unusual name too, btw. And yes, kids did take the piss sometimes at school. It's the kind of name that can be turned into an insult. But rarely, and it was only the kids that didn't like me. If I'd been called Tracy, they'd have found something else instead.

Edited

Some kids will always find a way to tease, be it for a name or looks or hobbies. I can't see a Rudy being a standout reason for bullying!

Rue means Street in French

I like Rudy. Short for Rudolph I presume? Cute ❤️.
