Trying to avoid the very top UK names, but still want something lovely and timeless.

Baby surname is Lee.

Current shortlist:
β€’ Jude
β€’ Nathaniel
β€’ Raphael

Which one do you like best - or any suggestions? Thanks so much!

I like Jude and Nathaniel.

I think Nathaniel probably goes better with your surname, as Jude Lee is a bit blunt (and sounds a bit like you're saying 'Judy'). It's also very close to Jude Law!

AlwaysSoTired2 · 14/01/2026 18:05

Jude seems really overused where I live. At least 10 in my son’s one form entry primary school. Raphael makes me think of the Ninja Turtle tv program! So Nathaniel!

Silverbirchleaf · 14/01/2026 18:07

Jude seems to have gained popularity recently I’ve come across a few of them recently.

I like Nathaniel out of the three. Sorry, Raphael has turtle connections to me.

Other names -

Richard
Jerome
Adam
Gabriel
Simeon
Christopher
Nicholas
Cameron
Callum

I think Jude is the one that works best with your surname - although Jude Lee sounds a bit like Judy
Nathaniel Lee is a bit awkward to say but it’s a nice name
Raphael Lee just doesn’t work, sounds like his name is β€œRaphaelly”

Thank you I really like Gabriel and Nicholas!

Nicholas Lee is the best suggestion by far

Emanwenym · 14/01/2026 18:29

Jude - not great with the surname, and Jude is popular
Nathaniel - long, will be shortened. Nate Lee?
Raphael - whiny sounding, I don't like Raphael or Raph. Doesn't go with the surname.

My vote is for Nicholas.

I like Simeon and Jerome! Also met a Gizmo recently and thought that was really unique!

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/01/2026 18:46

I like Jude and Nathaniel, but would pick Nathaniel as it goes better with your surname. I like Nate for short.

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/01/2026 18:50

I just spotted someone else commented Nate Lee, so I’ve changed my vote to Jude as Jude Lee is better than (ante)- natally / Natalie.

Emanwenym · 14/01/2026 19:00

@Moreteaandchocolate , I was thinking Natalie too!

That's why it's important to consider the 'first name surname' combo and the possible diminutives of the first name.

Pettenell · 14/01/2026 22:50

Raphael is my clear favourite from your list - great name! However it's not perfect with your surname (same with Nathaniel) as they end and start with L.

I dislike Jude.

Nicholas
Felix
Phineas
Patrick
Nico
Rufus
Ezra

Love the name Jude but not sure it flows with Lee

FlyHighLikeABird · 14/01/2026 23:00

I love Raphael as well and I don't think anyone will be thinking Ninja Turtles when he's 20, it's a classic, beautiful name.

It is a little jarring with Lee, but I wouldn't worry about that myself, and he might go by Rafe or Raffi anyway.

Happy2026 · 14/01/2026 23:04

Jude!

I actually know a Nathaniel-Lee (hyphenated first name!)

notgivingmyname · 14/01/2026 23:05

As you have a monosyllabic surname I suggest a forename with at least two syllables.

CeciliaC · 14/01/2026 23:24

Definitely Nathaniel, such a strong classic

Calliopespa · 15/01/2026 08:11

Claire1225 · 14/01/2026 18:12

Thank you I really like Gabriel and Nicholas!

I like Nicholas a lot!

Myswweetchild · 15/01/2026 08:18

I love Nathaniel.
So many Judes near me.
Love Gabriel. I see why people like Nicholas, I've just never liked it.
Benjamin Lee
Dominic Lee.

July2026mumma · 15/01/2026 10:42

Nathaniel

Jude has become really popular where we are.

Alexandrine · 17/01/2026 00:32

Nathaniel is by far the most classic and timeless. Sounds lovely with Lee. The other two don’t sound as good with your surname plus Jude in particular is very trendy now and will likely date.

Jeschara · 17/01/2026 17:10

I love Raphael, it is a beautiful sounding name.

LancashireButterPie · 20/01/2026 09:15

Love Jude but I know 6 under the age of 3. It is definitely having a moment.
Also love Gabriel.
Nathaniel is a classic.
I personally don't like Raphael, it's a bit too try hard.
