Boy name to go with Alexander

We've just found out pregnant with baby no. 2 and need to start thinking of boy names because DS name took a long time to pick one we both liked and wasn't a family name. We have a girl name so if have a girl this time no worries.

DS is Alexander but goes by Xander. We'd like to find another long/traditional name that has nickname options. Middle name will likely be Drew after my dad, DS middle name is after DH's dad.

Family names include Joseph, Robert and David.

Thanks for any help!

I have a Toby you could call him Tobias as it’s a shortened name for the more traditional Tobais and shorten it to Toby. Thats not what we done however people always ask if his full name is Tobias. I also have an Oscar and my girl is Freya. I’m going to struggle for boy names this time round although you have just put Xander in my head though lol

William seems the obvious pick as a sibling name for Alexander to me. Then you have Alexander the Great and William the Conqueror - hard to have stronger sounding namesakes than those. Plus both are a very similar style: well used but not Top 20 popular in E & W, yet are timeless classics (historically never left the Top 100), both very international, both names of Kings, several choices of nicknames etc

2nd choice might be something like Frederick, Maximilian or Nicholas as fellow Royal classics with good nickname options - but they aren’t quite as close a sibling “match” to me as they tend to go more in and out of fashion than timeless Alexander and William.

Hi @whatnextstepsi have named two boys - it's really really hard. One of them is called Alexander too. I find boys names so much harder than girls - I could have had 10 girls! what I would say is please don't narrow your pool of names just so boy no2 will "match" your first boys name. Our boys don't have matching names - they have names we love. I wouldn't have found it fair to name one just to suit his brother. Just something to consider if you're struggling!
