We need help naming our second baby girl. Our first DD is called Winter.

So far we have:
Cecily
Astrid
Soleil
Shiloh

Suggestions are welcome but we prefer uncommon, nature/ whimsical names.

Not Soleil. You will then have Winter Sun.

  1. Cecily. 2. Astrid. No to the others.
Giraffehaver · 01/01/2026 22:16

Please not Astrid. How would you shorten it?

miniaturepixieonacid · 01/01/2026 22:19

I LOVE Astrid. One of my favourite names. I don't think you could have Soleil with Winter, personally. Not keen on Cecily or Shiloh.

I like Astrid and Cecily but both have unfortunate first syllables for secondary school teasing potential…
Shiloh is ok but has a bit of an American YouTube star vibe to me. I dislike Soleil.

I voted for Astrid as my favourite from your list, and I like it with sister Winter, however I do worry about the teasing potential with this name.

These are probably already mentioned, but I do like Winter and

Please not Astrid. How would you shorten it?

It doesn't need shortening. I really like it. I know 2 and they're 'Astrid'.

lifeontheroundabout · 02/01/2026 14:25

How about Meadow?
Laurel, Elowen ( elm), Sierra, Linnet, Briar, Stella, Star?

RuthW · 02/01/2026 14:47

I love Cecily. Would you want Ass as a shortening for Astrid?

Calliopespa · 02/01/2026 19:54

I voted Astrid. I know one and it is adorable on her. She doesn't shorten it.

I also like Cecily.

Cocktailsandcheese · 02/01/2026 20:00

I don't really like any of them I'm afraid, but there have been some lovely alternative suggestions made. Love Winter though.

Tootjaskoot · 02/01/2026 20:01

How about Solenn?

Calliopespa · 02/01/2026 20:04

Tootjaskoot · 02/01/2026 20:01

How about Solenn?

That looks to me like Solemn.

TomatoSandwiches · 02/01/2026 20:05

Love Astrid

What about...

Alice
Marceline
Mona
Tanith

TomatoSandwiches · 02/01/2026 20:07

Ooh, Winnifred?

Tootjaskoot · 02/01/2026 20:21

Calliopespa · 02/01/2026 20:04

That looks to me like Solemn.

That is one of its meanings, the other is sun. However you say it completely differently to solemn, so there wouldn’t be any confusion there. I believe there are alternate spellings too. But I personally love this one.

Hazelmaybe · 02/01/2026 20:39

Astrid is harsh sounding I think. The others are nicer.

Gettoachiro · 02/01/2026 20:45

Probably Astrid out of your four.

To go with Winter (which is lovely!), maybe Summer or Autumn?

user2848502016 · 02/01/2026 20:46

Winter and Astrid - beautiful!

Definitely not Soleil, it’s too weather themed with winter (and a brand of sun cream)

Aster is nice too if you like Astrid
Also Juniper, Laurel, Ember, Zinnia, Raven

user1492757084 · 03/01/2026 23:20

Winter and ..

Cicely
May
Frith
Fern

All perfect.

Cicely Mary Barker is the artist who painted the Flower Fairies, poems and other nature stories with illustrations.

(Cecilia) May Gibbs is the artist and author of children's bushland stores like Gumnut Babies, Little Ragged Blossom and Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.

Frith is the character out of The Snow Goose.

Fern from the book "Charlotte's Web".

MummaR94 · 07/01/2026 21:19

Astrid and Cecily go perfectly
