Girls and Boy Choices

Hi there,
we will probably have our baby in the next week and we don’t know the gender.
For a girl I am torn between Genevieve and Imogen - any preference between those?
For a boy, all we can agree on is Evan.
i find boys names a lot harder. Girls names are hard to whittle down as there are so many lovely ones to pick from, but I find boys so so much harder because I just don’t seem to like many at all. Hate a few, like even fewer and the rest are just ‘meh’.
Any thoughts on Evan please or suggestions of something which is similar but different?

Thanks

Imogen is preferable to my ear.

I don’t mind Evan but don’t love it.

BigDeepBreaths · 16/12/2025 13:20

Genevieve for a girl over Imogen.

Evan is nice but how about the irish equivalent of Eamon or Aiden or Ethan which all feel a bit stronger?

itsthetea · 16/12/2025 13:22

Imogen - simpler to say and spell and strong. Classy

Evan is grand - Ewan is also nice

17caterpillars1mouse · 16/12/2025 13:23

Out of your girls I prefer Imogen, though I have a soft spot for the nn Ginny - not as in love with Genevieve personally.

I really like Evan for a boy, and the similar Euan. And Evander. I've not met a little Evan in years, its nice and ages well

everdine · 16/12/2025 13:25

Not keen on Evan, I knew one at school and he was a bully! I like Imogen best.

MissyB1 · 16/12/2025 13:28

Imogen is lovely, personally I prefer Euan to Evan.

TeachersHR · 16/12/2025 13:39

Evan is fine. (Only downside is there are lots of girls called Eva, which looks similar.I wouldn't let that put me off it.)

Not keen on Genevieve - the French pronunciation is nice but not the UK one). i don't like the diminutives.
Imogen is much nicer.

GiddyDog · 16/12/2025 13:44

Imogen is lovely, I'm not a fan of Genevieve.
I like Evan, similar feel to me are Owen, Adam, Elliott, Ewan/Euan.

Mumofgirls2017 · 16/12/2025 16:39

I prefer Genevieve slightly over Imogen. I like Evan. Other boys suggestions though suspect you’ve trawled through the lot

I prefer Imogen, Evan is lovely.

I love Imogen and Evan 😊

Aluna · 16/12/2025 17:08

Imogen hands down. Genevieve is dated and Genny - dull.

Pettenell · 16/12/2025 23:33

Both Imogen and Genevieve are strong favourites of mine and I would find it hard to choose between them too. Genevieve has the advantage (for me) of being less popular, but both are amazing names!

Geneviève is lovely. I also really like Evangeline.

Evan is good!

Lemonlimonade · 17/12/2025 07:42

I prefer Geneviève but only pronounced properly. I find Imogen very harsh.

Evan is not my taste but it’s ok as a name

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 17/12/2025 08:12

Genevieve - I love it and underused

I find Imogen a wee bit ploddy, but nice enough - anyway it's getting v popular if that matters to you.

Evan is.. OK - it's v different (aka less high end) to your girl choices - Elijah, Sebastian, Tobias, Cassian, Nathaniel, Lucian, Rufus, Laurence, Rafe etc etc are all more what I'd expect Imogen or Genevieve's brother to be called

Sparklinggreen · 17/12/2025 08:18

Genevieve over imogen

not a fan of Evan What about Edward?

Calliopespa · 18/12/2025 11:52

I really like Genevieve and also like a pp's suggestion of Evangeline.

I'm not fond of Evan, but what about Ivor?

TeachersHR · 18/12/2025 11:56

@theunbreakablecleopatrajones , it's not that popular. Baby name explorer

SleafordSods · 18/12/2025 20:37

I love all pf your choices OP. What will you shorten the girls names to? I only know one Imogen and she goes by Imi.

Every Evan I’ve ever met has been absolutely lovely.
