Not a fan of Reece for a boy or a girl. Really harsh sound, a bit like grease or rice.

Avery and Everly are the best on your list.
For a similar style maybe Piper, Quinn, Wren, Ember?

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/12/2025 12:16

I like Rhys with the proper spelling, Also James. But, both these are boys names and it just looks like you wanted a boy,

CurlewKate · 11/12/2025 12:32

Unless you’re prepared to call a boy Clara or Lyra don’t call a girl Reece or James.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 11/12/2025 12:35

Please don't give her a boy's name, OP. It was bad enough growing up with the feminised (and often mispronounced) version of a male name, without an entirely masculine one! It's very annoying when you are regularly mistaken for being a boy at school and, later, job interviews as a teen. It's very annoying, even more so if you're excruciatingly shy! Throw in the fact that one of my parents told me that, "I didn't want a daughter, anyway", and you can understand why I had already looked up 'how to legally change your name' by the time I was around 12.

I now have a clearly female name.

hiredandsqueak · 11/12/2025 12:43

I don't like Reece for a boy never mind a girl, it's quite 90s isn't it? Not keen on the others either James is most definitely a boy's name. I think using a boy's name for a girl makes everyone think you have gender disappointment. How about Ava rather than Avery or Evelyn rather than Everley?

user1492757084 · 11/12/2025 12:46

Most are boys' names.

Aviana is the only name I like..

Why do you want to give your daughter a boys name?

Because we are cool and edgy and would like lots of attention!

Have you been watching Americas Sweethearts?

Prelim · 11/12/2025 14:24

Obviously in the minority here, but I quite like James for a girl!

BeNoisyFish · 11/12/2025 14:25

The people I met with this name have been lovely but I don't like the name.

PumpkinSpicePie · 11/12/2025 14:28

Makes me think of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. I don't mind it but think James should be left for boys.

How do you feel about Clara for a boy?

How do you feel about Clara for a boy?

Not a fan of Clara for a boy or a girl but I do like Jesse, Finley, Casey, Addison, Ari and Harley for a boy, all of which can be seen as girl names by some.

I dislike Reece for a boy, but quite like it as a girls name. Everley is my favorite from your list.. Not keen on James, but like Jamie for a girl.

I don’t like Clara for a male or female.

I don’t like Clara for a male or female.

🤣Nobody gives a straight answer to that question. Because they know that they would never give a classic girl’s name to a boy and don’t like what it says about them.

I named several names which can be preserved as feminine that I would name a boy?

All of the boys names you listed are actual boys names though? Have literally never heard of a girl with any of those names.

Lararoft · 11/12/2025 16:30

My great grandfather was called Reece. He had Welsh heritage I believe and called one of his sons Reece too. My gg grandfather was a docker and bare knuckle boxer.
I think the girl’s spelling tends to be Reese?

They are all either male names like Jesse or last names which have only fairly recently come into use as first names. Talk to me about Clara, Rose or Grace for boys.

MrsKateColumbo · 11/12/2025 16:40

Reece for a girl is American, I dont love it. It makes me think reece's pieces

Rhys is a beautiful name for a boy

Your other names are nicer

I’m sorry you don’t like my answer (is your son/daughter called Clara, if so I apologise).

I don’t like the name Benjamin for a girl, but I quite like the name James, I’m sorry that offends you. I prefer the name Robin for a boy, and Jocelyn for a boy rather than a girl. I also prefer Jessie and Wren on a boy.

I like the name Grace for a boy, I wouldn’t call a child of either sex Rose. There are some names I like and some I don’t, some I would call a girl and some I would a boy, I think that’s completely normal and liking one particular boy’s name for a girl is totally in line with that. I don’t like overly frilly names in general and wouldn’t call a boy or girl those types of names. Absolutely comfortable with whatever that says about me!

similarminimer · 11/12/2025 16:55

@CurlewKate it's an interesting question but unfortunately the answer is probably misogyny - as it would obviously be UNBELIEVABLY AWFUL for anyone to think a boy might be a girl, but cool for people to think a girl might be a boy. There are plenty of names which started as male, became mixed and ended up for girls only, but no examples the other way round that I can think of.

Vivian, Evelyn, Lindsay, Allison, Shirley, Kimberley, Tracy, Madison

CurlewKate · 11/12/2025 17:11

Not remotely offended! I chose Clara as an example because it was the first quintessentially “girl” name I thought of. And if you would genuinely call your son Grace then I apologise. Pretty sure you’re in a tiny minority though.

StruggleFlourish · 11/12/2025 17:13

Whether the consensus of whether or not Reece is an appropriate girl's name, the decision is still up to you
But I have to say this answer gave me major ick vibes

"Question: Why do you want to give your daughter a boys name?

OP: Because we are cool and edgy and would like lots of attention"

Why don't you do like Elon then?
Just call her ¥#√§ or something.
She won't thank you either way, but when she's old enough she can always legally change her name....
