Too many L sounds when said aloud with Layla and Penelope.
Very tongue twistie.

Freya and Darcie sound more calm.
Others ..
Grace
Louise
Zara

Very sad about Layla sounding like a stripper name :(

Definitely not a stripper name!!

Dottyie · 23/12/2025 23:16

Not sure where the idea of Darcy being a daddy name and like Tracey 😵‍💫 MN is a weird place!

love the name but spelt Darcie

I don't know what a daddy name is, @Dottyie . Maybe you could enlighten us.

Darcey was popularised by Darcey Bussell, a beautiful, successful ballerina.
The name peaked about 10 years, and will probably be a '2010s' name in pretty much the same was as Tracey is a '1960s name'.
I like the Darcie spelling least.
I don't like anything about the name - how it sounds or looks.

Pistachiocreme · 24/12/2025 13:22

@Emanwenym do you think Freya will be of it’s time too?

Layla is the only one on your list I like. My husband has a friend whose daughter is called Freya (liked it when younger but gone off it) and I knew someones who named their daughter Penelope (never liked this one). Darcy is ok i guess but Layla is a lovely name.

Emanwenym · 24/12/2025 13:39

Yes. How many Freyas do you know who are your age, your mother's age, your grandmother's age?

Emanwenym · 24/12/2025 13:44

I quite like Leila. It's the Layla spelling I don't like. There are so many Lily/Lyla/Lila type names that they seem to merge.

OceanSafari · 24/12/2025 14:58

Freya is lovely

I know two my age but I thought maybe it had been popular for so long that it wouldn’t be seen as dated anymore

OP posts:
Emanwenym · 24/12/2025 20:06

It's not dated yet but it's been very popular for some time and new name trends will come along so most of the Freyas will be born in the 2010s and 2020s. I think it will be like Samantha and Amanda where you can tell roughly what age they are from the name.

If you love it, use it.

ChubbyFecker · 24/12/2025 22:21

Freya
Layla
Penelope
Darcey
The last two are too frilly imho

HopefulYankee · 25/12/2025 06:30

Penelope is my favourite from your list. I think Mary McClement sounds nice too.

GreyhpundGirl · 28/12/2025 11:49

Teacher here- Layla, Freya and Darcy are pretty common. Penelope less so but a name that you will hear being shouted in parks more often than you'd think. However, it's the best name on the list.

JenG256 · 28/12/2025 12:52

As a Penelope, I love my name, thx Mum and Dad. I choose Penny, although in Spain Penique is my chosen moniker. Penelope I use when I'm feeling a bit grand, Pen to my close friends.

Alliod40 · 28/12/2025 16:16

Love layla..
Freya beautiful name
Prefer Gracie McClement instead of Grace
Ava McClement
Also love Maeve too xx

JenG256 · 06/02/2026 21:15

As a Penelope I'd always thought (as my parents did) that a 4 syllable first name 'fitted' with a single syllable surname. 4 syllables sitting with another 3/4 syllables. Bit of a mouthful? It took a long time to learn to spell my name, and Nell has never been mentioned. 'Pen' is lovely though. ♡

tinyspiny · 06/02/2026 21:18

I only like Layla and Penelope off the list but I really dislike Penny as a shortening so I’d go for Nell . Nell McClement sounds really great .

CurlewKate · 06/02/2026 21:24

Freya or Penelope.

HighburyHope · 06/02/2026 21:24

Martha McClement?

mynamechangemyrules · 06/02/2026 21:32

As a primary teacher- Freya and Darcie are everywhere, as slightly dated hangovers from earlier years, but always lovely student tbh. Layla/ Leila/ Lila/ Lyla likewise lots of them but individualised and cultural differences and also lovely students as a massive generalisation. Penelope less popular but love the sound of it both long and shortened.

love PP suggestion of linking to your family name.

Cocktailsandcheese · 07/02/2026 12:32

Freya!

amy480 · 07/02/2026 12:56

Freya has been in the top 100 for almost 30 years!! It’s very popular at the moment but I think it will be up there for a while yet so I don’t think it feels as dated as some more fashionable names (like Darcy). It’s really pretty. Penelope seems to be having a moment and I’m hearing it mentioned and suggested a lot of late but it’s a nice name with nickname options.

as suggested, Clara sounds great with your surname. :-)

luckylavender · 07/02/2026 13:06

I only like Penelope. The others are all ‘try too hard’ & a bit clumsy

Firebird83 · 07/02/2026 15:21

Freya is overused. Darcy and Layla are a bit chavvy, sorry. Penelope is ok.
