Hey!
My husband and I have the name “Jovie”’ down on our list to name our baby girl. We’ve had it in our minds for a while but it’s pretty uncommon. What are people’s first impression of the name?

I think alot of people will think it's a misspelling/misheard, probably for Josie.

i think they will get Bon Jovi references far too often, which is unfair.

Unless you absolutely love elf, and you are specifically making her for that, then I would avoid.

There is a Jovi on the reality programme ‘90 Day Fiance’. He’s from Louisiana.

This - memories of my Grandad who used "By Jove" as an alternative for WTF as he was too posh to swear 😁.

I would definitely avoid it.

As for 'it's a made up name' though, well, many names are made up aren't they?

What about 'Nevaeh?' That's made up! Wasn't a name when I was younger. It's just a 21st century name. (It's Heaven backwards of course...)

We have Filipino relatives and it’s a recognized name in the Philippines.
Also a male version Jovi.

Now I’ve read this etymology, I can see why the name appeals to you @RNJo:

Makes me think of jovial - not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Sounds too much like jobie for me which here in Scotland means 💩
