French Girl names

I'm watching Charlotte Gray and when Charlotte went under cover in France she was called Dominique.

I am a bit of a Francophile and so it made me wonder what my preferred French name would be. I love Mathilde. I loved Ghislaine until it became associated with Maxwell. I went to school with a Sandrine which I thought was magnificent.

So I am curious as to what your fave french names are?

I am not naming a baby, but thought this might be the best place to put the query in case I want to change my name by deed poll one day. Grin

Valerie is my favourite - quite old fashioned now but I love it.

I knew a Camille and a Nina who were both pretty cool.
My French neighbour has a DD called Amandine - it's nice but makes me think of almonds, which is an odd thing to be named after.
But my favourite is probably Gabrielle.

Madeleine.

I love my name. But only the French pronunciation (Mad-lenn/Mad-lehn) or the traditional English (Mad-a-laine). None of this Mad-a-lin thank you.

PixieandMe · 05/11/2025 20:48

Sophie and Louise.

French names are the best.

The French pronunciation of Valentine is lovely. Almost called my daughter that, but it would only have ever get pronounced the English way.

Hohumdedum · 05/11/2025 21:13

I love Amandine too!
Antoinette (definitely from St Clare's!)
Delphine
