Boy names to go with Nina?

JLB234 · 04/11/2025 05:44

We’ve recently found out that we’re going to have a little boy. Very exciting but we’re finding boy names much harder to agree on. Plus we have lots of boys in our family so lots of names have already been taken. We like more traditional names, prefer those that aren’t super popular but also aren’t “out there”. You can probably see why we’re having such a problem 😂. We also have a little girl called Nina so any boys names which would go with that would be great!

Any feedback would be appreciated as we really are stuck!! 😂.

Thanks xx

I never quite understand the thing about names being “taken”. DH is Irish and he has at least three cousins with the same first and second name. TBF he has a LOT of cousins.

It’s a personal preference. I wouldn’t use a name used in immediate family or close friends kids.

@NellieJean , How would you feel if you had only one sibling and he or she called their child the same name as your child?

Why are you choosing your 2nd born's name to match your first? You didn't choose your 1st born's name with another name in mind, so it should be the same this time around. They are individuals

How is wanting the names to sound nice together in any way not allowing them to be individuals? It’s not like I’m forcing them to dress the same or have the same hobbies. If you’re not bothered about that, fair enough but maybe try not to be so judgmental of other people’s choices.

Because if you choose a name to "match" his sibling you're limiting the pool of names - pretend he is your first born and go with your favourite rather than making sure it matches, therefore limiting your choice! An individual in the sense that he'll be given a name to match his sister

Emanwenym · 04/11/2025 16:50

@Nearlyamumoftwo I think she doesn't want to call them names that don't go together. I don't think she is after a 'Mickey and Minnie' type combination.

Don’t worry about names being taken….if they are second cousins with the same name it just doesn’t matter. Even if they are first cousins it’s acceptable. Nina is lovely and goes well with lots of the suggestions!

EmotionallyWeird · 08/11/2025 13:36

I think Nina goes with something short and simple but a little bit unusual, maybe with a bit of an international feel. My first thought was Theo.
