Did anyone not have any idea of names until....

I am 38+5 and other than middle names for our bump (family names that we have to use) DH and I have no idea what our PFB will be called.

We toss ideas around but have nothing firm decided or even a short list to pick from.

People seem to be obsessed with what names we have and so far we have managed to put them off by telling them that we are not telling anyone as it is easy to object to a name but a lot harder to be nasty or object to a person/baby with that name.

I have spoken to people in RL who tell tales of having a short list then coming home with a child named something completely different so know it happens.

I am looking for some reassurance that DH and I are not alone in not having any idea of names for our PFB and we are not going to end up with baby Hedgehog or even baby mole (DH's nickname)

Thanks

We had a list of about 10, then a short list of 2. DS was not in the 2 as he didn't look like either of them but he was in the 10. See if you can get at least a shortish list?

My friend didn't have any idea til baby-no-name was born. She was named a few days after being born.Think it's nice to name them when you see them!

I'd definitely work on having a shortlist by the time you go to hospital. We had a list of names neither of us minded, and we ended up squabbling about it and referring to DD as "the baby" for a week before we wore each other down and settled on the one that was common to both our lists.

Leave yourselves open to a baby who pops out and says Hello Mum and Dad! My name is X!, but don't depend upon it.

DH and I had one name for a boy or a girl for both DC's - but then I like to be organised and I think it would have stressed me out not having at least a shortlist of 2.

The record on not naming has to go to a neighbour of mine who didn't register her son's birth until the last day of the 6 week window because they still hadn't decided on a name - SIX WEEKS!! She bought the baby along to toddler group when he was a few weeks old and of course eveyone was cooing over him and asking what they'd called him and they hadn't - reckon if there wasn't a 6 wk limit on registering births they'd still be making their mind up now.

LolaLadyBird - I have a funny feeling that will be us. 10 weeks to go and no names in sigh, we'll be calling her Baby X until inspiration strikes!

We had none decided for ds1 until he was born, with ds2 we decided on a name which I thought we were sure about but dh changed his mind when ds2 was born.

DD1 -we had a girl name but no bot name, so luckily she was named straight away.

DD2 - no name for boy or girl. She was Louise in hospital, then a week later we decided it wasn't right, and she finally got a name at almost 6 weeks

DS was "Boy" for 6 weeks, and we didn't decide his middle name until on the way to the registrar when he was 6 weeks and two days old!

We had a name lined up and then changed our minds after the birth of our second. She was Girl Baby for about a month.
