Clara or Beatrice

Which name would you pick if you had to choose between either please? Both match sibling names and surname. Neither are my first choice but my husband isn’t keen on that and likes both and they are the closest to a compromise I think. Thank you.

Beatrice. Clara has a harsh sound.

JillyGiraffe · 16/10/2025 22:27

Beatrice.

ChuffingNoraah · 16/10/2025 22:30

Clara by a country mile.

WaltzingWaters · 16/10/2025 22:34

Clara 100%

Clara is 1000x nicer than Beatrice.

This

Clara is 0x nicer than Beatrice. It's not nice.

IfHeWantedToHeWould · 17/10/2025 13:51

Clara definitely.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 17/10/2025 14:00

I'm not a fan of either but if I had to choose I would say Clara.

Crunchymum · 17/10/2025 14:05

Clara for me but purely as it's less popular.

I know a few Beatrice's. One is a Bebe and the other is a Triss!

Most kids with "long" names end up with some kind of nickname or diminutive.

Idontdobumsex · 17/10/2025 14:55

I’m sorry but I think both sound too try-hard wannabe middle class

Emanwenym · 17/10/2025 15:00

Have you considered Maci-Lea or Beau-Lilah, @Bella1905 ?

Instructions · 17/10/2025 15:17

Clara by miles, it is a lovely name

I'm really not a fan of Beatrice at all

Mollydoggerson · 17/10/2025 15:22

Clara for me.

user1492757084 · 18/10/2025 08:36

Clara.

I also love Claire and Carla.

VictorianChic · 18/10/2025 08:45

I don’t know a RL Beatrice so for me, the name brings up an image of the royal woman - Andrew’s daughter - with the inelegant Hanoverian features and the grifting tendencies.

So, Clara is superior. I also like the suggestion of Beatrix.

AudiobookListener · 18/10/2025 08:46

Both gorgeous. Why not use both? If I had to choose then Clara.

Fedupoftheshits · 18/10/2025 08:51

I really love Beatrice and if DS would have been a girl it would have been a top choice. I also like the nickname Bea that’s used for it.

cheddercherry · 21/10/2025 10:34

Beatrice now forever associates with Prince Andrew etc for me unfortunately as she’s the most high profile Beatrice I think of in the UK. That scandal looks like it’s not going anywhere soon (along with dragging his daughters through the mud too, sadly for them) so probably wouldn’t want my child’s name anywhere near the ongoing storm tbh.

Emanwenym · 21/10/2025 11:29

@VictorianChic , with the inelegant Hanoverian features is mean. I think she is an attractive woman.
She cannot help who her father is.

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/10/2025 14:06

I like both, though prefer Beatrix as it has a more quirky feel.

Of the two I think I prefer Clara, but it's close

TheJessops · 21/10/2025 14:11

In my opinion, Clara is beautiful and rolls off the tongue, Beatrice is odd looking and clunky to say.

Clara is one of my all time favourite names ever since hearing it in Back To The Future!

BananaPeels · 21/10/2025 14:13

I love Clara - Beatrice is a bit common tbh

mumisfull · 21/10/2025 14:17

Love Clara and it’s less prolific than Beatrice, at least in this area. I’ve taught a number of Beatrice and they have all had a side of Mean Girl, so for that reason, I’m out.

Blogswife · 21/10/2025 14:27

Beatrice , such a beautiful name

Emanwenym · 21/10/2025 14:40

Clara is currently more popular than Beatrice, but the popularity is recent.
