Diaeresis

Any experience with a name with diaeresis, please? Is it a pain on forms? Does a passport exclude them etc?

Secondly, would it be “correct” to have diaeresis on Raphael?

Nobody will bother. I notice Jurgen Klopp and members of Kraftwerk are rarely given their umlauts. I have fadas, nobody ever bothers with them either.

My dd has 2 fadas, she is very particular about them and they are on all her official documents, work lanyard, email etc

Avoid. I have a name with something like this. It ends up sometimes in computer systems with all sorts of glitches. Then I can’t be found when they go to look me up. It’s gotten to the point that I know the common errors and can suggest it may need to be typed in to find me, but it’s a giant headache.

I have a tilde in my last name (Spanish name) and it's not included on any official documents...passports etc.

I've got one in my name. I always make sure it's added when I'm writing my name by hand, but have got very lazy with trying to remember how to add it when typing. That laziness has annoyed me over the last couple of years though, so I've got better at adding it to things like email signatures.

I know a Zoe spelled as Zöe instead of Zoë

I recently saw a youtube video about the difficulties of names with characters that computers don't recognise. It originated from the days of very limited memory and characters being restricted to "basic" letters, numbers and very limited punctuation and it still affects a ridiculous number of databases meaning names aren't reliably and stored consistently which can cause issues on databases and for issues like travelling when multiple bookings are made.

We didn't include accents in the DCs' names. It was unlikely to enhance pronounciation and more likely to have been logistically awkward than helpful.

Admittedly I did intially wonder if OP intended it as a name, but I've had an interesting day of dealing with logic-defying class lists when the rules of phonics and spelling have been over-ridden, and some vowels have been doing a lot of heavy lifting... Names can be a very loose concept...
