Sibling name thoughts

I have an Alexandra and not finding out the sex this time. Would like something recognisable but not too popular, like their sister Alexandra.

We have a long shortlist of girls names but finding boys harder. What are your thoughts on these and do you have any other suggestions please? No L names. Maybe we're too fussy!

Girls, listed in order of current preference
Anastasia
Elizabeth
Adriana / Adrianna (can't decide on spelling?!)
Georgiana / Georgianna (again, spelling?)
Josephine
Samantha
Susannah (but we don't like Susan?)

we quite like Antonia but not sure if we would use.
We like Penelope too but not sure if that's more popular/trendy?

Benjamin
Frederick
Samuel
Joseph
Tobias, can't decide if I like it..
My 2nd favourite boys name is Evander but doesn't really pair with Alexandra. First was Alexander.

Boy names we like but can't use are George, Christopher, Thomas, Joshua and Edward.

Thank you all.
Like the suggestions of Benedict, Zachary, William and Anthony. Like Ophelia too but feel may become popular from TS new album.

I do personally prefer Georgiana over Georgina/ Georgia but noted that few have said the opposite!

I like all your girls name ideas with Alexandra (does she go by Alex?). Anastasia is nice if you don’t mind the same initial - Annie is nice for short. Elizabeth goes very well too - which shortening were you considering? Alex and Eliza sound good together.

I actually love Georgia rather than Georgiana as people are more likely to use the full name with Georgia, instead of her becoming Georgie / George (or the Georgiana I know actually goes by Jo).

I love all your boys names - can’t choose between them! Maybe Tobias nn Toby.

Just Alexandra at the moment but she may well choose to go by Alex when she's older!

What about Constance? Elizabeth is lovely and works with Alexandra, which is a beautiful name.

For a boy Sebastian would work? Or may be Oscar?

Kindaconcerned · 10/10/2025 22:11

Anastasia - do you say it as Ana-stay-zhuh or Anna-stay-zee-uh? - I love this name with the Russian pronunciation ah-nah-stah-see-yah
but in the UK the English pronunciation would make more sense, I suppose!

Elizabeth - beautiful with Alexandra (so many nn for both names!)

Adriana / Adrianna (can't decide on spelling?!) Ade-ree-arna or Ad-ree-Anna? Depending on the way you are saying Alexandra (in your accent) they are very samey!

Georgiana / Georgianna (again, spelling?) first spelling, beautiful (again some good nn options)

Josephine - Yes, love this with Alexandra

Samantha - no, seems dated.

Susannah (but we don't like Susan?) - love Susie as a nn, very sweet!

Antonia - Not keen

Penelope - Love this but for some reason I’m not keen on Penny at all

Overall favourite pairing with Alexandra would be Elizabeth!

My suggestions for you:

Alexandra & Juliet
Alexandra & Vivienne
Alexandra & Genevieve
Alexandra & Catherine
Alexandra & Helena (hel-lay-nuh pronunciation)
Alexandra & Theodora
Alexandra & Frances
Alexandra & Diana

Boys -

Benjamin - Lovely but what about Benedict?

Frederick - My favourite of your boys names

Samuel - Nice name but I don’t think it feels as elegant as Alexandra

Joseph - Same as above

Tobias - I think this is lovely with Alexandra

Evander - I’ve never heard this name but I like it! Maybe a bit of a mouthful with Alexandra though

Overall favourite pairing would be Alexandra & Frederick

My suggestions:

Alexandra & Nicholas
Alexandra & Theodore
Alexandra & Sebastian
Alexandra & William
Alexandra & Adrian
Alexandra & Henry
Alexandra & Arthur
Alexandra & Everett

Of your choices, imo Susanna is a really good shout - classic but not overused, just like Alexandra. Don’t think it matters that you don’t like Susan- most wouldn’t as Susan is dated now, whereas Susanna is more timeless. Georgiana is also nice and has a very similar style to Alexandra (both being 4 syllable variations of popular boys names), Josephine is similar style too and of course you can never go wrong with completely timeless Elizabeth.

Samantha is slightly dated imo and Penelope is a bit trendy imo, sorry.

I really love Antonia but personally I’d avoid another A name again (so no to Adriana and Anastasia too). But Julia, Claudia or Lydia are a very similar style to Antonia - timeless and underused.

I’d also suggest Juliet, Caroline, Catherine or Philippa as a similar feel to Alexandra as well.

Boys are harder - but I don’t dislike any of your choices as they are all similar classics to Alexandra (apart from maybe Evander because it’s so rare, although it’s a nice enough name). But due to Alexandra’s length I somehow want to pair a longer sibling name with it - maybe Nathaniel, Nicholas, Laurence, Sebastian or Maximilian? Although classics like William and Frederick of your choices also look good.

Alexandra and

Josephine
Theodora

Edmund
Quentin

i wouldn’t repeat the initials so would avoid A names

Girls:

  • Anastasia – I love this one! It’s elegant and timeless. I don’t think it’s too popular either, but definitely recognizable.
  • Elizabeth – A solid choice. Classic and regal, though it is quite popular, so you might want something a little less common if that’s a concern.
  • Adriana / Adrianna – Both spellings are lovely, but I’d go with Adriana (the double "n" feels a bit extra). It's a lovely name that’s familiar but not too overused.
  • Georgiana / Georgianna – I like Georgiana more—it feels a bit more refined. Both are lovely though!
  • Josephine – A beautiful name, with lots of history and elegance. Could be a little on the rise in popularity, but it’s still not overly common.
  • Samantha – A solid name, but I feel like it’s a bit more dated compared to your other options, if that matters to you.
  • Susannah – A lovely name, very classic. If you don’t love Susan, I think Susannah stands well on its own.
I like Antonia too, and I think it pairs beautifully with Alexandra. Same with Penelope—though it’s becoming more popular, it’s still distinct and charming.

Thank you. You've summed up my own thoughts about the girls names here!

I like Joseph best from your boys list. Can’t quite decide out of the girls.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 15/10/2025 00:50

Laetitia
Hortensia
Juliana

I like all your names OP except Susannah because I used to know a horrible one.

Firsttimebabymummy · 06/11/2025 16:38

Updated to add that I've taken Samantha, Antonia and Penelope off the girls list. They just don't seem 'right' spoken aloud repeatedly.
Anastasia front runner at the mo..

For boys I'm only left with Benjamin from original list.. but added Benedict, Timothy and Nathaniel. Boys middle name likely to be James.
Still like Tobias in full but not keen on Toby
