Amelia (Mimi for short) - what you think?

Since we found out we were having a little girl we've been calling her Mimi, the name has stuck but I don't think it's formal enough to have as a full name so have been thinking Amelia Grace Stewart (aka Mimi). What do you think? x

Lovely name.

MascaraOHara · 03/06/2008 14:35

I really like the name Amelia but Mimi reminds me of the Irish drug dealer in Shameless.

UniversallyChallenged · 03/06/2008 14:38

Think it's lovely!

Izzywhizzy · 03/06/2008 14:38

Love it.

My niece is called Amelia and as a child she was always called Mimi - now as an 18 year old she likes to be called Amelia.
It's a lovely name.

Anna8888 · 03/06/2008 14:41

Mimi is far too cutesy for me.

Amelia is a pretty name.

Aero · 03/06/2008 14:41

Gorgeous name.

jingleyjen · 03/06/2008 14:43

Amelia is lovely
just a note though in DS1's class - Mia is called Mimi, Amie is called Mimi, Millie is called Mimi.

WilyWombat · 03/06/2008 14:45

Amelia lovely but isnt Mimi what Mariah Carey is calling herself now...are you hoping for a diva?

LolaLadybird · 03/06/2008 20:52

Amelia is a lovely name - it would have been my first choice for DD but DH had a horrible dinner lady called Miss Amelia when he was at school so that was the end of that (honestly, how horrid could a dinner lady be?)!

Heated · 03/06/2008 20:53

Fab

DirtySexyMummy · 03/06/2008 20:55

Amelia is gorgeous.

Mimi makes me think of shameless..

scorpio1 · 03/06/2008 20:56

we have a Millie Grace and call her Mimi.

Springflower · 03/06/2008 20:56

Love both.

ScaryHairy · 03/06/2008 20:59

I like Amelia.
There's also a South African name "Miemie" which has lovely associations for me! Might that be an option?

AbbeyA · 03/06/2008 22:07

Amelia is lovely but I don't like the Mimi-Millie is better-or even better don't shorten at all.

Nats79 · 04/06/2008 11:28

Thanks everyone! Thankfully never watched Shameless but a friend mentioned this and apparently the character (being a drug dealer and all) isn't what you'd want to associate with your daughter! Glad I've finally been able to make a decision!

I love it and named my Goddaughter (5) Amelia as her Mum had nothing! (She was baby number 5..)

However, yesterday at the baby clinic the lady picked up a red book and called Amelia and three women started picking up there babies and getting ready to go in. They had to clarify by surname which one was meant to be going through!

So it's very popular these days but may not be so much where you live but just bear in mind it's a very common name.

ranting · 04/06/2008 11:35

Amelia is a lovely name but be aware it is very popular, my dd knows 5 Amelia's, so if that sort of thing bothers you, then be aware.

Piffle · 04/06/2008 11:38

we liked amelia but it was so common we were not happy using it.
so we chose emilia shortened to Emmy which we love 5 yrs on.
not many Emmys anywhere except showbiz!!!

wontbepreggersagain · 04/06/2008 11:42

we have an amelia which gets shortened to Millie- and we don't know any others, people always comment on her beautiful name though!

spugs · 04/06/2008 12:47

my 2 yr old is amelia and we call her mi mi, its a lovely name but missing my heels is right about there being a lot of them
