Savannah? Yay or nay?

Dh loves the name Savannah. Although I am not pregnant with # 2 yet, we still argue over baby names as a sort of hobby.

The name Savannah for me conjures up images of gazelles galloping in Africa.

FWIW neither Dh or I are British and it is very unlikely that we will still live in the UK once our child(ren) are school age. The reason I say that is some names work in some countries and some names don't.

So what do you think of Savannah as a girls name?

oh my christ
NOOOOOOOOO

expatinscotland · 03/06/2008 13:24

I don't like it because it's a very soccer mom name in the US and so that puts me off.

But others might like it.

I like it, for a character in a book or film, doesn't really work in RL.

meemar · 03/06/2008 13:26

It's pretty, I like it.

lotuseener · 03/06/2008 13:26

Already lmao! Expat- I'm from the US, too. Never knew any soccer moms named Savannah, just one very annoying colleague- from Georgia of all places!!

I was going to add, only use it if you don't care what other people think

belgo · 03/06/2008 13:27

nay

tortoiseSHELL · 03/06/2008 13:27

NOOOOOOOO!

MargaretMountford · 03/06/2008 13:27

nope

Ettenna · 03/06/2008 13:27

No, it's a 'trying too hard' name.

VictorianSqualor · 03/06/2008 13:28

It reminds me of the names little girls give their dolls.

Could you not have something more normal like Sienna or Scarlett?

expatinscotland · 03/06/2008 13:28

It's very, very popular in teh Denver area, which is Soccer Mom central, and in Texas.

Too popular for my tastes.

But I've long since gone native.

sweetkitty · 03/06/2008 13:30

Not my cup of tetley I'm afraid.

Nice enough though.

lotuseener · 03/06/2008 13:30

Sienna- barf!

Scarlett, meh.

Hopefully when the next one comes around he'll be a boy and we won't have to agonize over girls names. Dh and I literally do not have 1 name we can agree on for a girl. His other choice is Zuriel. NO WAY!!!!!

Prefer Susannah which doesn't sound that different really. If shortened, I like Susie more than Savvy.

I don't dislike it though, but I wouldn't choose it.

VictorianSqualor · 03/06/2008 13:32

I love Susannah, sienna and scarlett are the names of two girls I knew who were nearly savannahs.

LavendersBlueDillyDilly · 03/06/2008 13:32

Savannah No.

Susannah YES!!

Expat what exactly is a soccer mum? I've heard it but not really grasped it.

meemar · 03/06/2008 13:33

Zuriel? That sounds like a washing powder

expatinscotland · 03/06/2008 13:33

Susannah is lovely.

I much prefer Susannah

lotuseener · 03/06/2008 13:35

Exactly meemar. Ds is named Gabriel, but Dh wanted to name him Damien!!! We have very different ideas on baby names!! Oh, yeah! He also seriously suggested Nadine, as if I was going to give birth to a chain smoking, 50 year old, truck stop waitress!!!
