We are due a baby boy fairly soon and we like both Ashton and Austin. Surname has two syllables also.

Looking for some outside opinions! Which name do you prefer?

Austin

Austin. Ashton reminds me too much of Cliff Barnes’s girlfriend Afton.

PurpleChrayn · 28/09/2025 19:31

They both sound like names of cars from the mid-1980s.

mirrorsandlights · 28/09/2025 19:33

Neither. They sound like men’s clothing shops.

Ashton just reminds me of ash trays, my Great Gran used to call hers the Ash tin.
Austin makes me think of Ethel Austin shops.

Both awful I’m afraid

I like Austin - it feels like a modern name but with an older name vibe. Ashton is nice although I like it less than Austin but I think I only like it because I like the name Ash (like Ash Ketchum lol)

Ashton. No.

Austin. Maybe, but sounds like a fat bloke who bores on about football. (That is a lot of men, granted, but ‘Austin’ sounds worse than
most.)

Ashton is nice. Austin just makes me think of cars.
