Name change in England on birth certificate

I only have a few days left to change my daughter’s forename on her birth certificate, and I’m feeling unsure. I don’t really like her current name anymore, and I keep thinking about changing it—but I’m also worried about potential problems later on, especially since she already has a passport with the old name.

Has anyone gone through this before and can share their experience?

  • If I change it, will the new name be considered her legal name from birth, or from the date of the change?
  • Has anyone had issues with travel after updating the passport?

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

She will always have to inform of her first name if asked. Like when banks ask if you’ve ever been known as another name. When you renew her passport it might be worth having it added, I believe there’s a section for this, I’m going to add my maiden name next time I renew mine.

Have you done the change on birth certificate or deed poll?

Hello, I’ve read similar posts here before. People usually mentioned that it was a very simple process and that they didn’t experience any issues. But honestly, I’m not sure what kind of problems could come up later either. Hopefully, someone with experience can answer, and everything goes smoothly for you

I changed my DS name (only the middle) it replaces the name he was given at birth so the original certificate is invalid. No issues with passport although only got first one after name change. Don’t need to give previous name for any checks.

It cost £40 and I was told it’d just be an extra couple of days if ever needed birth certificate copies as needed to be processed by a person rather than automatically printed.

Is the name after change is placed on space 17 or in space 2 instead if the old one?

Do you need every time to wait for 2 days to be done by person not automatically every time you need it or only the first time?
