Still no name..

Another post from me. Baby is 2 weeks old and we can’t commit to a name still. As per my last thread, we like Kit but are worried about it becoming a trend. We also like Joss, found by another poster on here. Prefer the unusualness of Joss but being mistaken for Josh constantly will be very frustrating. I am willing to consider other options, husband is too relaxed about it and not loving any particular choice which makes it difficult. We didn’t have this difficulty first time around!!

Other suggestions were posted on the last thread but none stood out to us. Criteria is one syllable and unusual. If anyone could persuade me either way with the two names we have, or find a new name we both love that would be amazing. I know we have 6 weeks but I really want baby to have a name soon x

I liked Zach, Heath, Gabe, Seth and Kit when I was pregnant.

@HugoYorway I take it that's a name change from one of the funniest baby name threads I've ever read.

@allshook not quite holding my breath but I am quite invested now 😂

Taking so long to name a baby is attention seeking! Just pick a name FGS

Attention seeking??

HugoYorway · 16/09/2025 13:59

@allshook , I've been taking my car to the same garage for about 20 years. The owners' son is called Jack. I've never asked but I have wondered.

@Sowingbees , course not Wink. I can't find the thread.

Gray, Reeve or Saul.

Not Gray. A friend of mine is Gray and says he can't understand why his parents willed him a colourless, depressive name. He's fought against it all his life.

I like Joss and Kit - both great names. I've had a lifetime of having to spell out my name as people always get it wrong but it's no big deal. 'Joss-double S' is quick to say.

How about:
Lars
Dex
Blake
Bram
Breck
Brock
Luke
Mack
Max
Ross
Cass
Joe
Jake
Jude
Pip
Rick
Karl
Kyle
Gus

You seem to like single-syllable nouns as names @allshook .
Kit (bag), Joss (stick), Banks...

I'm not keen on Kit, Joss is a diminutive, and Banks is awful.

How about:
Heath
Wolf
Guy
Finn
Pax
Cliff
Todd
Clay
Jett
Miles

Heath ( cliffe)
Wolf (whistle)
Guy ( Fawkes)
Clay ( pipe)
Jett (plane)
Miles (away)

Yes I'm not keen on single syllable names And not keen on giving a baby only the shortened version of a name.
So I would name the baby Christopher and then there are options to call him the full name , or Chris or Kit. I like the name Kit but not to give him that as his only option.

Attention seeking??

Yes! Very!

All this ‘oh I can’t possibly use a name that anyone else in the world is called’

Just name your child!

Notellinganyone · 16/09/2025 16:06

Ned or Hal. Personally I would use the longer versions - Edmund/Edward and Henry/Hector but they are used like Kit as names in their own right. They all have a 16th century vibe which I love. Less popular than Kit but similar vein.

I look after a 2 year old Kit and he is the sweetest thing so have great associations with the name. (He does get called KitKat by others!! So potentially be prepared for that!)

im not overly keen on Joss, I do think you’ll be correcting people a lot from Josh.

what about Rhodes.. I love that name!
or Sol is very cool - never met one!

good luck x

Hohofortherobbers · 16/09/2025 20:24

I like Kit.
Also like Fox
