I like Sylvie best

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/09/2025 10:44

Elara - I like this, if you don’t mind that it might get mixed up with Alara or become Ellie. I love Lara.

Sylvie - it’s so pretty but I imagine a 50 year old French lady! I think my association would change quickly once I met a little Sylvie though.

Sophie - such a safe classic (maybe a little bland and popular compared to your other choices?)

Sylvie rocks 💚

caityvh · 12/09/2025 10:46

Sylvie is so cute 🥰

Mumofgirls2017 · 12/09/2025 11:51

Sylvie!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 12/09/2025 11:53

I think Sylvie

Calliopespa · 12/09/2025 11:55

Sylvie and Sophie are cute but I'm afraid I really never like the sound of Elara. It sounds kind of slimy.

What about Lyra as an alternative?

Tedwardy · 12/09/2025 11:57

I don’t like Elara at all. I’ve never met one. Too out there and try-hard.

Sophie is the opposite - nice but quite classic.

Sylvie is lovely, quite unusual but not ridiculously so.

dontcomeatme · 12/09/2025 12:05

Oh I like them all. I've never heard of Elara before but it sounds so pretty off the tongue, quite elegant. I would choose Sophie over Sylvie x

TearsRunDownMyThighs · 12/09/2025 12:07

My Niece is a Sylvie Eleanor Cartwright (diff surname but same sound and syllables) and it's such a lovely name.

we call her Silv most of the time but it's a wonderful name.

not too keen on Elara, I prefer Lara

sophie is a no. Far too boring and dated

Baninarama · 12/09/2025 12:07

Elara or Sylvie - Sophie is incredibly dull.

TearsRunDownMyThighs · 12/09/2025 12:08

Niece is 12 by the way and adores her name. Only one of her in her school that she knows of!

MaltWispa · 12/09/2025 12:12

Sophie is a lovely name (I'm biased though as my 9 month old DD is called Sophie!). Classic yet sweet but all three of your names are sweet. Depends what goes best with middle & surname? Good luck!

DuchessOfNarcissex · 12/09/2025 12:34

Elara - I don't like it. It's sort of Uh-lar-uh. Lara is more elegant.
Sylvie - old-fashioned
Sophie - was on list for DD1, but a cousin used it.

jolies1 · 12/09/2025 13:03

Elara sounds like a product name but the others are nice, Sylvie is really pretty and not one I’ve heard recently

Elara sounds made up. Sylvie is trendy and will likely date.

Sophie.

BoleynMemories13 · 12/09/2025 18:30

I love both Lara and Elora, if you like either of those, but Elara sounds a bit made up to me.

Sophie is very classic, but a bit overdone.

Sylvie isn't for me.

Pinkl · 12/09/2025 18:31

Sylvie

Chewbecca · 12/09/2025 18:32

Sylvie

sesquipedalian · 12/09/2025 18:33

Sylvia and Sophie are both lovely.

HerbieFluffyDumpling · 12/09/2025 18:35

Sylvie is a beautiful name!

ShowOfHands · 12/09/2025 18:39

Sylvie is pretty.

I teach quite a lot of Sophies (9 in a smallish rural school) and it's just that bit too popular and overdone.

Marble10 · 12/09/2025 18:42

Surprised at the popularity of Sylvie ! Too much of an nn for Sylvia which of course is a very old name

I like Alara (was my no1 for a girl but ended up having a boy). Elara (ee-Lara or ‘eye-Lara’ ? )

Alexandrine · 12/09/2025 18:57

Depends on what you want as they are all very different style names to me. Personally overall I think I’d go for Sylvie of the 3 because…

Sophie is a classic and the least likely to date (you meet toddlers with the name as well as women in their 50’s/60’s for example). BUT the added popularity at the moment of all the Sophia/Sofia’s too does personally put me off a bit.

Sylvie- my favourite of the 3 as I think it has such a lovely sound. It’s fairly well known but still underused in comparison to similar Sophie (or Evie). However it is trendy, rising rapidly in the charts and so potentially may date in future (as it did in France and similar Sylvia did in the UK), but tbh unless you go for a classic, many names have that risk.

Elara is beautiful but I think is going to get her name misspelt/misheard regularly. There’s a lot of newer “El” names about - for example similar Elora from the film “Willow” is more widely used (and of course just Lara alone is more popular).
