Love it, one of my favorite names I seriously consider for my future kid. But downside is lack of obvious nicknames.

Why is that a problem? My daughter and I have names with lots of possible nicknames and we both refuse to answer to any of them. Cecily is a great name, much nicer than any possible shortening..

autienotnaughty · 30/08/2025 06:18

I love it reminds me of the What Katy Did books.

Cecily is very nice.

I also love ..
Cicely (Cicely Mary Barker)
Celia
Cecilia
Cecile

RosesAndHellebores · 30/08/2025 06:45

Lovely. It does mean blind but more latterly St Cecilia was the patron saint if music and it derives from Cecilia. I prefer Cecily or Cicely.

DD had a Cecilia at primary, a Cecily at secondary and a Cicely at 6th form, she's 27. So not out there at all in my experience.

Susannah Constantine has a daughter called Cece which I think is a shortened form of Cecily or Cecilia, I always think it sounds beautiful.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 30/08/2025 10:19

Cecilia is OK. I'm not keen on Cecily. The Cess sound makes me think of cess-pit.
Ceci/Cece/Cici is awful.

I like it
I do prefer Cecilia or Celia though

I know a 12 year old Cecily. It’s such a pretty name but she gets called Cess all the time which unfortunately reminds me of a cess pit.

This is what I came here to say too. She may well become Cess in secondary school as Cece sounds a bit twee for many teens and all 3 syllable names seem to get shortened at comp.

Comedycook · 30/08/2025 11:51

Dislike. It's very fussy, wet and twee sounding imo.

Francine84 · 30/08/2025 11:56

My daughter is called Cecily and I love it, obviously. It’s 50/50 whether she’s called Cecily or Cici and I think it’s a beautiful name!

FearsomeWretchedandWrong · 30/08/2025 11:58

I love it. I much prefer Cecily to Celia or Cecilia.

Rubyupbeat · 30/08/2025 13:32

Ooh, this is lovely, not heard it for years. Ceecee as a nickname.

JustCece · 13/09/2025 19:43

My name is Cecily (and I’m in my mid 20s). Not commonly known as Cece but basically until I was an adult it was Cec. I used to hate it but I’ve met a number of women having babies who have said Cecily was on their names list. And I love that it’s not really a common name. Most people I meet say how much they love my name.

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/09/2025 19:48

Lovely name. I also like Celia and Cecilia. It's simple and oozes class! Like an Edwardian lady.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 13/09/2025 19:48

Lovely

I think it’s nice but much prefer Cecilia!

Agree. Both nice, Cecilia has the edge for me.

Though there is the song I guess, which flicks me back towards Cecily.

UninitendedShark · 17/09/2025 09:50

My eldest daughter is Cecily (aged 20) Nicknamed Cissy. I adore her name and she likes it too.
