We are having a boy - due December.

I have always loved Kai but River is also so lovely!

There are two Rivers in my daughter's class going into year one.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 24/08/2025 13:21

River is marginally better. Both will date horribly which may or may not be a concern

Well I think Kai and River are boring. Why ask for views on your names if you are going to be rude about other suggestions?

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 24/08/2025 13:31

I don’t like either but Kai is slightly better

Wynter25 · 24/08/2025 13:34

River

Mischance · 24/08/2025 13:34

Anything - just anything - but Kai!!!

ChopsyHatesFungus · 24/08/2025 13:35

I know a teenage female Kai who is lovely and not in the least bit chavvy but likes alternative music and fashion. She works p/t in a small artsy cafe and is mates with my DS.

sanityisamyth · 24/08/2025 13:39

Both are awful.

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/08/2025 13:40

Why don’t people remember babies with allegedly cute names become adults. Kai is utterly chavvy. Just no. River could work depending on your surname, if it’s Tweed or something else vaguely water related then again, errr no. Both might be cute in nursery but probably less so later in life.

forthistimeonly · 24/08/2025 13:40

We considered Kai for my first, but sacked it when Daniella Westbrook named her son. I used to know her. 25+ years ago.
My child is a girl/woman so thankfully it wasn't an issue.
Equally, we considered River for my son in 05 but, didn't go for it.
The only ones I know now, are girls.

ShowOfHands · 24/08/2025 13:43

I teach a female Rivva.

I don't particularly like either name but River is the better of the two.

Rowan is perfectly lovely.

I think Gary is really edgy. How many baby Gary’s do you know?

Jesephone · 24/08/2025 13:58

How about Kit instead of Kai?

JTAP · 24/08/2025 14:10

Rowan is absolutely lovely. I would go with that 100%

No to the other two names for all the aforementioned reasons!

Zoono · 24/08/2025 14:33

I also really liked the name river for a boy but it vetoed by my then partner and we had a daughter instead. I still like the name. I'm not keen on Kai at all. Rowan is also a lovely name.

Spanglemum02 · 24/08/2025 14:33

I know a welsh man named Cai (same pronounciaton). There is a character called River in Slow Horses. I do prefer Cai/Kai.

Emanwenym · 24/08/2025 14:38

Guy is nice.

ninjahamster · 24/08/2025 14:40

River is better than Kai.

Cant stand Rowan.

Moreteaandchocolate · 24/08/2025 14:44

Kai is lovely. River is too hippy for my taste.

MaryGreenhill · 24/08/2025 14:50

Neither

Thissickbeat · 24/08/2025 14:50

Neither. They are a bit Rooney / Beckham. Slightly dated now.

There's a reason there aren't many baby Garys

A bit Rooney/Oliver.
