Due a baby boy soon, both DH and I love both of these names. Help us decide. There are no issues with our surname with either name.

Happy for Samuel to be known as full name, Sam or Sammy and for Jesse to be know as full name or Jess.

@pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs Nobody uses the "big Jessie" insult anymore
But so many posters have mentioned it.

True, but presumably the posters are adults. I guess I meant that kids aren't using this frankly quite retro insult (the few I asked to test my theory at least looked at me blankly)!

Jesse is too feminine. No one wants to be a jesse.

Obviously it sounds like Jessie; on the other hand, it is biblically male and Jesse James the outlaw wasn't exactly "feminine."

Well, i have a 17 year old Samuel. It’s a very adaptable name. Sammy as a baby, Sam as a child. He chose to use Samuel when he went to High School.

Having said that… I used to be a CUb Leader. I had a Jesse. He was a nice kid and no one evert took the mick out of his name.

There are three boys named Jesse in our village primary school. No issues.

I love Jesse. Although I acknowledge I may be in a minority. I think it's SUPER cool, but you probably do need what DS2 would call 'aura' to pull it off.

Jesse is my favourite boys' name. I love it.

Samuel is fine but so, so popular. There are several Sams in every school.

Jesse

Nothing wrong with Sam, I just find it a bit blah (maybe because I was born in the 70s and know so many)
