Those are all nice, sensible names! I opened this thread with trepidation, thinking that it would be another load of awful names, but I was pleasantly surprised! So many people seem to call their children dreadful names.

I think Fiona is tasteful and timeless, as is Anna. Same for James, William, and Christopher.

really like your lists, so much crossover with my own :)

Fiona - no, only because shrek!
Marina - like
Adrienne - ok
Frances - really like this, was on our list, prefer it to Francesca
Katherine - love it, front runner on our own list. So many nicknames, I like Kate/Kit but also if spelling with a C, option for Cass/Cassie. Choice of spelling is my only conundrum with this one. I don’t mind at all that it’s common in >30s, I think it’s unusual/refreshing on a small child now.
Caroline - this one objectively all the same things as Katherine but for some reason I don’t like it!
Lucy - simple and sweet but not my favourite
Edith - too old lady and a bit trendy just now?
Jane - classic and simple, love it is a first name (overused as a middle)
Cordelia - not for me, feels too fussy
Anna - classic - same as Jane

James - love, classic, front runner for us if we have a boy
Sebastian - I think I would like it if I didn’t know a couple of horrible ones in my time!
Dominic - love it. Good nicknames
Mark - is fine
Julian - not for me, famous five!
William - classic, love, very similar feel to William for me
Rufus - nope, feels too posh to me
Christopher - nice, classic
Jasper - nice
Henry - the only Henry I know well is a dog so that’s out for me!

Other suggestions from my own long lists seeing as we have some similar tastes

  • Alexandra, Elizabeth, Margaret, Cassandra/Cassia, Rhiannon, Carys, Imogen, May, Cara, Nina
  • Benjamin, Nathaniel, Thomas, Patrick
