Which names are popular in your area?

I’d be interested to see which names you are repeatedly hearing and then whether your area is considered affluent or not. Just for a bit of lighthearted fun as I find it interesting how names can vary so much depending on the area. I have recently moved from a not very affluent area to an affluent area and these were the names I came across the most plus some that were popular in both!

Affluent:
Hugo
Otto
Lenny
Edward

Felicity
Maya
Ruby
Olive
Marley

Less affluent:
Alfie
Dylan
Josh
Louis
Jensen

Autumn
Jessica
Chloe
Willow
Matilda

Both:
Albie/ Albert
James
Jack
Henry
Max
Sebastian

Ottilie
Tilly
Poppy
Violet
Lucy

I moved from my old area in February and it was popular there for a solid year I’d say

Only if you choose to interpret it like that. Personally I find it fascinating to hear about different name trends in different areas. There's a reason I know of no children with certain names which rank very highly in the ONS official data, and likewise I bet there are people in other areas who know of no children with names which are very popular around me.

People's perceptions of popular can be dramatically different, depending on where they live. We see it all the time on here, with people surprised by how popular a name is nationally, because they don't hear it at all around them.

Personally I find it interesting. The only person who has made a 'shitty' comment so far is you.

Mistyglade · 19/08/2025 09:56

One of the ‘affluent’ names a pp listed was used recently by someone I know and they are certainly, ahem, not affluent.

Very middle England, middle of the road
Rory and William are popular for boys, and then Eva, Ava and Charlotte for girls

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/08/2025 22:14

Mixed area here.

I find the more affluent areas are over-run with Henry and Oliver; Isabella and Olivia

The less affluent areas have a much more varied range of names (which I like, personally).

I don’t see any of the names mentioned being associated with affluent areas as such they are just very popular names right now and I’ve heard them used across classes.

GreyhoundGal1 · 22/08/2025 13:54

Mixed area. Not that many duplicates actually but ones I have seen:

Sienna
Sophia
Isabella
Amelia
Edie

Jude
Oliver
Freddie

IceColdChardonayPls · 22/08/2025 14:03

Not a particularly affluent area.

popular boys names are Jack, Jesse, Tom, Edward

girls are Ava, Olivia, Sophie.

These kids are early/mid teens, not sure what the younger trends are.
