Alternatives to Mabel?

We are due DD2 who will be a sister to Dora. I absolutely love the name Mabel but DH doesn't (he thinks it is too old fashioned despite all my protestations that it is now a top 50 name). He's said we can have Mabel if it means a lot to me but I'd obviously rather have a name he likes too! Our surname ends in the 'ie' sound which rules out quite a lot of names. I really can't think of anything else I like much and he has no suggestions either. Can anyone help?!

Dora and Nell
or
Dora and Maude

I think they work beautifully together, but are distinctive enough from each other to not be matchy-matchy.

I think Mabel is a lovely name btw and if DH thinks its old fashioned direct him to the current pop star named Mabel he might see it in a different light

Equally I knew an elderly lady who died 10 years ago who had Mabel as a middle name and she was embarrassed of it as it was such an old fashioned and dreadful name she said.

Id agree. To me it's just ugly. To each their own but you csnt use it.

For similar old fashioned M names: Mildred, Maud.

I’ve got a soft spot for Maud, which has a similar vibe. Probably even more old fashioned though!

Mabel is great with Dora. How about Edith or Enid?

Interesting. I think Dora sounds cute but more ‘old fashioned’ than Mabel.

Mabel is a very pretty name Maybe start singing ‘Don’t call me up’ and see if he still thinks it’s old fashioned then.
