TheDonsDingleberries · 02/08/2025 20:04

People often come to this board looking for lesser used names, so here is a small selection of girl names that were used fewer than 10 times for babies born in 2024 according to the latest ONS data set.

Some are names which were never commonly used, and some are names which might have been used more frequently in the past but have fallen out of favour with today's parents.

Lots of lovely names there. It's a shame the majority of us seem to choose the same 2 or 300 names when there are over 7000 out there.

Aphra, Araminta, Cameron, Demelza, Elke, Jacinta, Kerensa, Melinda, Rosita, Rowena, Sorrel, Tansy and Yvette are my favourites.

DD’s name was only used 25 times last year - perfectly normal, familiar name but just out of fashion at the moment. I quite like it being unusual, but (as a bit of a names/languages geek) agree that it’s a bit sad that there are so many lovely, interesting, meaningful names out there but so few of them are used regularly.

I can't believe how out of favour Kerry is. When I was at school there were five in every class.
