  1. Poppy
  2. Sylvie
  3. Olive

I like them all - in this order 😊

LucasBuck · 02/08/2025 18:58

Sylvie is gorgeous, albeit slightly trendy - it would definitely be my choice.
Olive sounds drab imo, sorry - popular Olivia is far prettier.
Poppy is just too cutesy- I understand it’s a flower name but it sounds like a pet name.

Matzoballs · 02/08/2025 19:40

Poppy is so twee, and it’s bloody everywhere. We’re overrun with Poppy-Roses and Poppy-Mays. Olive is drab. Sylvie ok given the choice.

Emanwenym · 03/08/2025 19:07

I only like Poppy.

groovergirl · 04/08/2025 02:09

Congratulations on your bun in the oven!

Sylvie is elegant. I think of Sylvie Guillem, the awesome French ballerina.

Olive -- urgh, drab. She won't thank you for it. Do you like the V sound? Consider Veronica, Verona, Vanessa, Virginia, Venetia, Violet, Evangeline, all with cute nn. Or, if you like the great-granny vibe with a prominent L sound, there's Cecilia, Clarissa, Christobel, Lucinda, Lillian, Loretta, Amaryllis, Priscilla.

Poppy is a term of endearment for a grandfather, at least where I live. If you must have it, consider Penelope with Poppy as nn.

Novanonplus · 04/08/2025 06:35

Like Sylvie

olive is a terrible name 🤢

1diamondearing · 04/08/2025 06:37

sylvia is lovely. Olive is a small grey thing swimming around in oil. Poppy is a nickname for a grandfather

Daffodilsarefading · 04/08/2025 08:14

Sylvie is the only one I would use. Even then I prefer Sylvia. I really dislike Olive it’s such an ugly name to me. Poppy is a bit meh.

Crunchymum · 04/08/2025 20:26

Love Olive. Not keen on the others.

noideasurrounded · 04/08/2025 20:31

Olive is gorgeous, not so keen on the other two names.

LetsGoOnHoliday · 04/08/2025 20:33

Sylvie- love, it's such a nice name. I know older teenagers with this name and it just one that bridges all ages so well.
Poppy- Beautiful name. Lovely classic.

Way way down is Olive. Really dislike. She will always have to correct herself. Not Oliver. Not Olivia (and they are both super popular names so that will be the assumption and what people hear first) It's not something I'd want to be called and just don't think it's a nice name. Nicknames would be Ol, Ollie or Liv (as per Olivia) which are all ok. I do think because of its meaning and connotations it makes a lovely middle name

alexdgr8 · 04/08/2025 20:36

Honestly I don't like any of them.
They are not horrid just a missed opportunity for a good name. Imo.
I had a friend called olive years ago.
But she was born in 1901 ...

Emanwenym · 04/08/2025 20:46

@groovergirl , Sylvie Guillem is 60. The name was popular in France in the 1960s and is dated there.

goingtotown · 04/08/2025 21:00

Prefer Sylvia
No to Poppy & Olive.

Yeah, but we're not in France. We're in places where Sylvie is gaining ground as a pretty and, until now, somewhat overlooked name. And Sylvie Guillem is still awesome. It's OK for a woman to be 60.

Margot (as in Fonteyn) -- very popular name now.
Anna (as in Pavlova) -- never out of fashion.
Darcey (as in Bussell) -- lots of young women have this name.

Emanwenym · 05/08/2025 10:15

@groovergirl , I know we're not in France, but if you heard of a friend in France naming a baby Karen or Deborah, you probably wouldn't think think 'Wow, like Karen Carpenter/Debbie Harry'.
