Help me choose between these two names…

Keira or Eva

Both work similarly well with our last name. One is DH’s favourite and one is mine. We are both happy with either name but wondering how public opinion is on each option.

I don't like either of them, but Eva is the better of the two.

Eve is nice, but the Evie/Eva/Ava/Evelyn trend seems a bit tired now.
Ciara is much nicer than Keira.

Matzoballs · 31/07/2025 10:28

I’d go for Keira only because there are just so many Evies and Avas and Evas. Honestly the world does not need more Evies.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 01/08/2025 21:18

I think Ciara, the original spelling, is much prettier so I’d go with that. Kiera is slightly more authentic than Keira.

Eva is just way overdone so I wouldn’t

Ida maybe?

RuthW · 01/08/2025 22:39

Keira is dated and Eva is too popular. If I absolutely had to chose it would be Eva.

NoCowardSoul · 01/08/2025 22:49

Ciara.

moveoverG · 01/08/2025 23:05

Keira definitely! It’s much prettier.

CurlewKate · 01/08/2025 23:09

Eva. But I prefer Eve.

marshmallowfinder · 01/08/2025 23:25

Keira.

RobertaFirmino · 01/08/2025 23:27

Mum wanted to call me Keira, after Keir Hardie. Dad said it was 'too socialist'. Instead, I was given a long, complicated Gaelic name which many people shorten to 'Jezza' (can you get any more socialist than that?) or 'Gee' which causes much hilarity with my Irish relatives.

But yes, if you choose that name, do be ready for political questions.

How about Caoimhe? It sounds like both names combined.

Linnet · 01/08/2025 23:36

Keira, although I’m not sure about the E being in it so I’d spell it either Ciara or Kira.

Calliopespa · 02/08/2025 02:49

Neither are awful, neither are lovely imo.

Eva is a bit overused at the moment - along with Ava, Ivy, Isla etc - and I prefer Evie with a longer name like Evangeline on BC.

Keira is less common at present, but am I the only person who hears "Carer Knightly"? I marginally prefer Kezia.

But neither will saddle your dc with a "problem" name op

PenguinLover24 · 02/08/2025 02:57

Love Keira! X

LuckyHare · 02/08/2025 04:31

I prefer Keira, it's a lovely name and it makes me think of Keira Knightly in pride and prejudice which is one of my favourite films. As others have said Ciara is a really nice spelling too and probably even better. Not that keen on Eva personally but I know it's very popular.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 02/08/2025 04:33

I like them both I think Keira edges it for me.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 02/08/2025 04:33

I like them both I think Keira edges it for me.

CurlewKate · 02/08/2025 10:01

I would pronounce Kiera and Ciara differently-Kiera as in Knightly and Ciara with a definite a sound Ci-are-a…

autienotnaughty · 02/08/2025 10:33

Eva is lovely not keen on Keira

Beautifulsunflowers · 02/08/2025 10:36

While they are both lovely names, Eva is super popular so you may want to take that into consideration.
Keira is a great name so that gets my vote!

Dandelionsand4leafclover · 02/08/2025 11:00

I like them both but I think that Eva is my favourite of the two.

Littlebitpsycho · 02/08/2025 11:26

I prefer Keira, Eva is so popular at the moment they'll just end up being one of many at school

CarriMarie · 02/08/2025 17:10

I prefer Keira as less popular. Eva, when combined with Eve and Evie is very over used, along with Ava.
