BWilliams95 · 28/07/2025 09:50

Hi All,

Due first baby in 5 weeks and the pressure is getting real lol.

Last name is Williams, we don't know the gender.

Thoughts on some names we have below and if they go with last name etc

Boys (open to middle name suggestions)

Ralph
Kit
Navy
Isaac
Jude
Elijah
Sonny

Girls (thinking of Jane as middle name, family name)

Rosie
Dulcie
Dottie
Goldie

Thanks all! :)

Ralph and Rosie, so cute but also nice adults names.

I think middle names should have some kind of meaning, maybe your name?

Boys

Love - Isaac
Like - Jude, Elijah
Ok - Kit, Ralph
Not keen - Sonny, Navy

Girls

Love - Rosie
Ok - Dulcie
Dislike - Dottie, Goldie

I agree with this poster!
Kit would be a nice nickname for Christopher or Christian and Dottie a reasonable nickname for Dorothy or Dorothea but I dislike nicknames as given names in general.

Isaac Benjamin Williams

Rose Amelia Jane Williams

Ralph - favourite.
Kit - awful. where’s your sports kit, Kit. Could be nicknamed Kitty.
Navy - ridiculous. At least the surname isn’t Blue.
Isaac - nope.
Jude - Hey Jude, Nah, nah, nah…
Elijah - nope. Sounds like liar.
Sonny - nope.

Girl, you’re naming a baby (who will grow up to be an adult) not a puppy!
Rosie - cute but common,
Dulcie - nope. Dull as dishwater.
Dottie - nope.
Goldie - nope.

I love Jude for a boy. I like the rest of them except for Navy.

Jude Henry Williams
Jude Oliver Williams
Jude Ryan Williams
Jude Frederick Williams

For a girl I like Rosie and Dulcie. Both go well with Jane and your surname.

Other suggestions - Ezra, Arlo, Brody, Luca, Saul
Maisie, Billie, Darcie, Emilie

MirandaBlu · 03/08/2025 11:43

I really like Elijah with your last name. I'd also think about a three-syllable first name for a girl, for example Rosalie, Rosemary (or Rosalind, but not as nice with Jane as the "n" kind of repeats) with Rosie for short.

PeachPumpkin · 03/08/2025 11:48

I really like Ralph. I dislike all the girls names in your list, but then we’re all different. Have you looked at the ‘Rose’ variations? Rosa, Rosalie, Rosalind, Roseline etc. I’m not overkeen on the ‘Dul’ in Dulcie. Goldie sounds like a nickname. Dottie sounds like it could lead to teasing, but I’m well aware that children can pick on anything.

AdaColeman · 03/08/2025 12:03

I quite like Ralph, though I prefer Rafe.
I'm not keen on the rest of your list, my least favourites are Navy and Sonny.

I really love Dulcie.
I'm not keen on the rest of your list, they seem more like nicknames, which will be cute while the child is little, but won't really work when they're grown up

Cocktailsandcheese · 04/08/2025 12:39

Rosie Williams would be perfect for a girl.

I like most of your boys names except for Navy and Sonny. My favourites are probably Ralph and Jude.

Could you use Jane as a first name?

My favourite of your boy's names is Isaac but I can't unsee 'i suck willy'. Sorry.

Edited

Oh dear, yes Isaac Williams might not work.

I like Kit Williams and Rosie Williams (though I'd probably go for Rose Williams, nn Rosie.)

My Mum is called Dorothy but gets called Dot. Dottie is a bit of an insult I think? As in 'don't ask Rosie for advice, she's a bit dottie'. I'd avoid it for this reason!
