Constance or Pippa?

Constance (Connie) or Pippa (Pip)?

Interested in others opinions… we aren’t keen on Phillipa, so Pippa would be the full name. We genuinely love them both and can’t pick a favourite.

You can’t always control a nickname, though. They can be pretty organic.
I have a very run of the mill name, that begins with a J, and i was called Jids, or Jidsa Woman.

I don’t know what it means either! 🤷🏻‍♀️

we aren’t keen on Phillipa It's Philippa. Pip is a bit twee but I like Philippa.
Not so keen on Pippa.

Connie short for Constance is nice.

VenusClapTrap · 23/07/2025 09:31

I like both, but Constance edges it for me.

FlatErica · 23/07/2025 09:40

Pippa!

Moveoverdarlin · 23/07/2025 09:43

I prefer Constance / Connie. Pippa to me is so dated. Classic 70s Pony Club name.

Mistyglade · 23/07/2025 16:39

Dislike Constance after that woman in the news recently but I really like Connie and Pippa shortened from Philippa. Connie reminds me of Talia Shire in the Godfather and I know an absolutely lovely Phil irl!

So google what the names mean - it may impact your decision- dramatically

Nikki75 · 23/07/2025 19:12

Love Connie 💕

GoodVibesHere · 23/07/2025 19:18

Personally I like Constantina

ldgso · 23/07/2025 19:23

Pippa

TheeNotoriousPIG · 23/07/2025 20:59

I like Constance (Connie)

SweetFancyMoses · 23/07/2025 21:04

I’m afraid I think Connie is a really ugly name. Pippa is the better of the two.

Firsttimebabymummy · 23/07/2025 21:05

Constance nn Connie

WallaceinAnderland · 23/07/2025 21:10

Pippa

Failingatadulting · 23/07/2025 21:10

I really like both but prefer Pippa as I'm not so keen on Connie

RogueFemale · 24/07/2025 00:23

With these type of name Qs I always ask myself what I'd be happy to have as a name, as an adult woman. Constance wins hands down over Pippa.

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 25/07/2025 22:11

Aww thanks everyone! We’ve decided to go for Pippa, we really love it! 🥰 we’re not bothered about the meaning in other languages, we hadn’t really heard of any it before mumsnet and we’re English living in England where (we think) Pippa is a lovey name 😀 thanks for all your opinions!

Aww Pippa is gorgeous 🥰 I love it!!! Thanks so much for the update!

Phillipa is the wrong spelling.

Philippa is lovely. Nick name Pip or Pippa.

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 26/07/2025 03:30

I know a Philippa Adeline, which is a gorgeous combination of traditional names.

I'd have Philippa on the birth certificate but call her Pip in daily life as it'll give options when she's an adult.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 26/07/2025 11:54

Philippa Adeline, which is a gorgeous combination of traditional names.
It's not gorgeous.

Allswellthatendswelll · 27/07/2025 17:38

I love a virtue name like Constance or Honour (DH vetoed both!). Connie is sweet I think.

Philippa is nice but quite 80s imo! I think Pippa just reminds me of Pippa Middleton (who I have nothing against).

pambeesleyhalpert · 27/07/2025 19:10

Love pippa

Pippa was the name at the top of my list for my first if he’d been a girl - that is until I told my Polish friend and she laughed! It sounds very similar to a rude term that’s spelt without one of the ‘p’s…

This. I love the name Pippa personally but I think it is actually a rude term in quite a few languages

Have you considered Nina? Similar vibe

PaLilli60 · 27/07/2025 22:30

Or Alexandra (day to day Alex) also giving me similar classic but short and sweet vibes
