I find it so hard to love names. I'm not sure I've ever found a name that I think is just right. Sometimes I go through phases of loving a name and then I'm like, what the heck was I thinking.

I love Ida and Wren but they don't go with surname. I love Hazel but it was the name of a mean relative. I love Iris but too popular.

So here are the names at the top of my list, the ones that work and that I like the most, but still have minor concerns about. They are ordered from most likely to use to least.

Cora (I love the greek origin and go through phases of loving this name, but then decide I don't like the ‘core’ sound. partner loves it tho which makes me want to use it)
Willa (too close to the mega popular Willow?)
Alma (too fusty?)
Nina (so warm and lovely, but is it too simple/boring?)
Rosa (On some people I think this is a beautiful, soulful name.. On others I think it sounds a bit prissy? No offence!! I can't explain it well)

What do you think of these and do you agree with my concerns or not? Are any of them super common where you live?

Just remembered another name I've been drawn to lately: Camille. I think it's so cute and don't know any little Camille's, although I'm sure there's loads in France.

I dislike them all! But then you’d prob hate my taste.

I do however love Camille.

Not Willa…awful name. Alma will forever be Coronation Street.

Like the rest of your names 👌🏻

I like Iris, Nina and Rosa from your list!

I’ve always loved the name Stella. Recently met a Meriel. Rosa is pretty, or Clara?

ThisCraftySeal · 20/07/2025 17:07

Rosa is lovely. If I had another girl ( which is not happening as I’m in my 50’s) it would be either Mabel or Clementina

PaLilli60 · 20/07/2025 23:15

Nina is beautiful

Or for greek origin what about Athena or Elena?

I love Cora. Beautiful name and not over used.

Pemba · 21/07/2025 12:28

Nina and Rosa are beautiful.

I don't like Cora. Nora?
Willa doesn't really work in the UK. Like a pp said, it sounds unfinished. Plus people will probably hear it as Willow anyway.

So you want a short simple classy name that's feminine and not too common?

Anna?
Gaia?
Mara?

Maya, Lilah, Lara, Eva, Ella, Zoe are all nice but probably too popular for you.

miniaturepixieonacid · 21/07/2025 14:28

I also don't think Iris is too popular. Even for names that rank top 100, it's only the top 5-10 that you literally hear everywhere and have multiples of in a school year group. Below that they're just well recognised names. I love Iris.

Cora - quite like it but prefer Cara
Willa - not keen. I do quite like Willow though I'd worry about the child not being willowy looking and getting teased (ridiculous, probably!)
Alma - not keen, I agree with your assessment. I do really like Alba though.
Nina - sweet, I like it. All the Ninas I know are Indian but that might just be coincidence.
Rosa - I like it but prefer Rose, Rosie and Rosanna
Camille - not keen but I do like Camilla

I love Iris. Unfortunately I live in a German-speaking country and I hate the German pronunciation.

Alma is randomly really popular where I live! Not UK though so not relevant for you.

I know a Coralie. I see someone already suggested that though. Chloe? Carmen?

Clara
Mabel

I adore Camille! It’s beautiful. Little Cami x

LucasBuck · 21/07/2025 20:06

In order of personal preference:

Nina - simple, pretty and underused imo. A funkier Anna.
Cora- retro elegance, I don’t think the “core” sound is a problem. Weirdly I hate similar Nora and Dora though - too elderly for me.
Rosa- lovely, I just much prefer simple romantic, timeless classic Rose (which would be top for me)
Camille - French chic, I just like the others (and Latinate Camilla) more.
Alma- yeah, it does have a fusty sound to me but it’s not awful or anything.

I swing between Nina and Cora of your picks. If you had chosen something like Lara that would have easily been No 1 for me (to me it has a very similar vibe to Cora, Rosa and Nina). You might also like Anya or Gaia? Or Sylvie since you like Camille?

Richtea67 · 21/07/2025 20:16

If you think Alma is a bit fusty, how about Alba? I love Nina, and also Rosa. I think you have a bit of a Spanish vibe going on there!

LivingTheDreamish · 22/07/2025 05:54

I'd go for Nina or Alma - both simple and beautiful. I don't get frumpy vibes from Alma at all. Also love Anna and Alba.

Bellibolt · 22/07/2025 06:53

Coral?

ChocolateGanache · 22/07/2025 21:27

smallfiggg · 20/07/2025 13:44

Thanks all for your suggestions :) Now I'm feeling Nina, Alma and Iris a bit more.. I'm so fickle haha. I just feel like they're warmer than Cora.

I'm surprised by the consensus that Iris isn't overly popular! I thought it was becoming overused, but if not, that's great!

I have kids in 2 different schools. Only ever met one Iris. She was super cute too.

I like all your choices. I'd like to suggest Wilma, Delia, Nora, Helena, Calla along the same lines.

Sudename · 22/07/2025 22:55

I like Cora, Hazel, Iris and Nina.
If you think Iris is too popular what about Ines?
