I work in a school, and have recently encountered a little Kevin, Eric, Austin, Spencer and Trevor. I guess some of the bearers of these names are now grandparents, so they're coming back round again.

There's an Austin at my child's primary school as well. I had a look at the ONS data, and it's currently sitting just outside the top 200, so happily getting more popular.

Glad to hear Eric is getting some love IRL!

My Mum drew up our family tree, going back 400 years.

Several “Jerez”.

Quite like it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/07/2025 23:23

Oh FFS. Bloody autocorrect again! Not Jerez (Sherry?!)

Jebez.

I can see new testament boy names cycling round again. The current trend is for old testament, but I think it will swing the other way again within the next 20 years or so.

I love Matthew and was really surprised when this fell out of the top 100. Luke too. Luca and Lucas have definitely taken over there, with a more international vibe. Maybe the current and likely future success of Luke Littler will raise Luke's profile once again?

I'd love Peter to make a comeback too.

Arthur has definitely already come back, it's been firmly in the top 10 for quite a few years now.

Most of these names (Nicholas, Martin, John, Matthew etc) will come back once they're grandparent or great-grandparent names.

I know of a lot of Arthurs and Rays, I'd say they're popular for under 5s around here.

I love Laurence/Laurie, and Toby.

I’ve always loved Nicholas - it’s not too old-fashioned, though, but I don’t know any young Nicks or Nicholases.

Yes me too, a fantastic name and very much worthy of a comeback

BatsInSpring · 02/07/2025 06:55

Christopher will surely have a moment again in a decade or so!
