Other than MN, where are we finding name inspiration for unique names? x

If you want something unique then you're not going to find it anywhere else!!
Maybe pull scrabble letters out of a bag, use two halves of other names you like and stick them together, use the parent's initials to spell a name, the what3words location of where they were conceived.....

Get a list of all the names of Disney/Pixar characters.

Have yourself a little Aladdin or Moana. I've worked with kids for years and never come across either of those.

I do wish people would stop using unique for unusual.
Anyway -- family tree; down the back end of the US top 1,000 names (I see Elon is at 370, God help us) - https://www.thebump.com/b/most-popular-baby-names; literature, the Bible...

There are some quite fun apps for this. You and your other half both download it and connect your accounts then it's like tinder, it suggests names, you both swipe left/right and it tells you which ones you've agreed on.

SJ Strum has a YouTube channel and Instagram page devoted to unusual/uncommon Baby Names OP. I think she’s done a book too now.

I found inspiration looking at old grave stones dating back to early 1900's.

One that always stuck in my mind (but didn't use) was Isamay.

Find something or someone that means something to YOU..
Dd's favourite colour has always been purple.. She named her dd Violet!
Obviously not Sunbed or Coffee maker if you love those!! Not a name some random z lister has used...

WildCherryBlossom · 20/06/2025 14:21

Ivytheterrible, a member of my family does have a name that was spotted on a gravestone. It’s not a wildly unusual one, but it is pretty. They are a good source of inspiration.

If you have an idea about what kind of name you’re looking for you can sift through the lists on Instagram or sites like Nameberry or Behind the Name. They’re sorted by all sorts of categories.

I went a bit mad trying to find the perfect name and checked gravestones and TV credits, the lot. I actually found DD’s name on a list of Catholic Saints on Wikipedia. Not religious but wanted a legitimate name that was a bit unusual and it seemed like a good place to search. After that it popped up everywhere I looked!
