AbbeyA - I agree, more likely to get the truth on here than in RL

LynetteScavo · 23/05/2008 14:08

Whats in the cauldren today, you two?

EllenJane · 23/05/2008 14:12

Lol!

I don't get why people that 'don't get' name threads come on the names board in the first place!

Heffa · 23/05/2008 14:14

Nice name. I know several Hollys and have never even thought of the Christmas connection. They're all very bubbly girls

learningallthetime · 23/05/2008 14:14

I meant I agree with Abbey's comment that people are more likely to get told the truth online reg. their choice of name than in real life where people will be polite.

I'm mixing up NICENESS and FRIENDLYNESS in my couldron today Lynette, you might wanna look up what they mean

MagicMuffin · 23/05/2008 14:37

Lynette - PMSL!

Bitchy comments, followed by "someone mentioned depression, quick let's play the victim" followed by bitchy comment.

You sure add a lot to MN don't you?

OP - I like both names but agree I prefer the spelling May.

LynetteScavo · 23/05/2008 14:46

YAWN at the daytime crowd who don't have profiles.

The op wanted opinions. I tentatively gave mine, not wanting to upset the op, but not wanting her to have only "that's nice" answers.

Hope my honest opinion was of some use, to you, Amandaella.

maybemaybee · 23/05/2008 14:50

holly mae is pretty though i do like the spelling may, it doesnt matter though, same sound!

LynetteScavo - werent you just on my post asking why i was asking about my choice of name? Why are you posting on name threads if you dont get them?! If people want opinions and ask for them in the baby name forum...presumabely for just that, whats the problem? I dont think you were trying to be mean though.

LynetteScavo · 23/05/2008 14:54

I think my mistake was saying I don't get the baby name thread. What I really mean, is that if you like a name, you really shouldn't be concerned if other people like it or not.

I think it's a good thinkg that people don't all like the same names (no good having a class full of boys all with the same name!)

I just think OP's may get upset after they have made their decision.

learningallthetime · 23/05/2008 15:16

What are you talking about Lynette? You didn't post so the OP wouldn't have only "nice" comments, you posted to be rude.
If you refer back to the posts made before yours, then you will see people were already being honest and not just "nice".

IMO A VERY RUDE TROUBLEMAKER.

minster · 23/05/2008 15:18

I don't like the Mae spelling, I think Holly & May are a bit odd together (winter/summer) and I know loads of Hollys. It isn't awful though.

Amandella · 23/05/2008 15:59

Dare I raise my head and say THANK YOU for all the comments!? I do appreciate both positive and those not so positive . One reason I posted was that I did want make sure it wasn't totally regarded as hideous and for what it's worth, it's made me re-think the spelling of the middle name so I think it's been worthwhile! That's my reason for posting on the names board even though we've more or less decided upon it. I have to say I also really like looking at the names board - find it fascinating actually - so shoot me!! Ducking down again now

I think it's a lovely name, and fwiw I never expect Hollies to be born in December or Mays to be born in May.

Lurkinaround · 23/05/2008 16:35

If I'd had my way DD2 would have been Daisy Mae. She was born in May but I just liked those names together and Mae looked nicer to me. This was 15 years ago though.

My exH and MIL said Daisy sounded like a cow's name and exH gave me a choice of Holly or Charlotte. I chose Charlotte and Emily as a middle name.

I should have stuck to my guns seeing as he buggered off when she was 2 anyway.

So, anyway, I think Holly is ok and Mae is lovely and I'm sure it will suit your DD perfectly. It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks as long as you like it.

VictorianSqualor · 23/05/2008 16:38

I like Holly, not sure it goes with Mae/May though, think it needs something more like Anne or Jane, or on a different tangent, a longer name, Like Holly Elizabeth, or Holly Suzanne or Holly Maria.
I dunno, tis none of my beeswax really, but that's my opinion.

Teuch · 23/05/2008 20:50

VS!!
What happened to 'clara'?

VictorianSqualor · 23/05/2008 21:12

I don't think Holly Clara goes, but you're right, she should just scrap holly mae altogether and have Clara Elizabeth.

Janni · 23/05/2008 21:24

I like it.
Prefer Holly May as a spelling

SoMuchToBits · 23/05/2008 21:24

Holly fine (unless your surname is Day ). Prefer May to Mae.

suwoo · 23/05/2008 23:48

I don't get where LS was being rude in this thread????? She stated her opinion as was asked in the OP. God, its like AIBU, if you risk not liking the answers then don't post the name.
