Not pregnant yet...but indulge me with boys' names

dh and i were talking about names once and I mentioned that I liked Daniel, Roman and Henry. He loved the names and decided then and there that those would be the names of our future sons.

Fast forward a few years and we now have a delightful little Daniel

Problem is that dh refuses to even consider other names for any future children - it will be Roman and Henry should we have any more and he thinks I should be delighted because I picked them

problem is that him being so set about it is making me obsess

just wanted to canvass some opinions

what do you think of Roman and Henry with Daniel?

I also like James, Elliot, Benedict.

Better to do this now, I'm now to be trusted when pregnant (I was insisting on Amadeus or Bede for Daniel - rather thankful now I didn't get my way...)

My ds is Wilfred.......... I like Thaddeus and Theo too. Roman is ok.. Like Henry,,,(my ds loves Horrid Henry)

Blandmum · 23/05/2008 08:41

Henry, not Roman. james is fab, all the james that I have ever taught have been great lads....just naughty enough to be lots of fun. I'm 'scarred' by one Elliot I taught and can never read the name with out an involuntary sinking of the heart!

I know a couple of Romans in Belgium.

I prefer Benedict and James.

MrsJohnCusack · 23/05/2008 08:49

Henry is a FABULOUS name

mmm - have been having doubts about Roman myself

theo is lovely - love Ted too, that's one for the list

other factor is that we live in egypt so have to think about how names will be pronounced here. everyone says DanYELL here which I find so irritating (a fact dh conveniently kept to himself...)

also our surname is a bit like Joyce so any first names starting with J might be awkward - think I could just about get away with James (love Jamie too)

i always say...imagine having to shout
out across a crowded street when your litle one strays towards speeding traffic...and imagine calling out each name...top of your voice....

my boys have what mmany consider boring names....so i may be missing the point here!

in favour of unique names is in the same scenario...crowded street etc...busy park etc... if i shouted out my sons' names i'd guarantee at least 100 little heads would turn...howver if i were to shout 'Roman'...i guess only my son would respond?

Mavornia · 23/05/2008 09:26

MUM23ASD - that's actually very helpful (and makes me even more grateful that I'm not shouting Amadeus or Bede across a busy street )

I like Henry but none of the others.

Roman is a bit chavvy, James is too 'ordinary' for me and Eliot will always be 'the kid from ET'

MUM23ASD · 23/05/2008 09:31

i'm glad i didn't offend you- i was worried i'd start a riot!!!!

cyteen · 23/05/2008 12:10

I like Henry, James and Elliot (the kid from ET was cool!) but Roman just makes me think of the ageing Satanist in Rosemary's baby.

lastboxoftampons · 23/05/2008 14:56

I love Elliot. James is fine. Henry is okay. Not crazy about Roman or Benedict (although do like Ben).

We decided long ago on a boys name too and I understand completely about feeling a bit trapped by the name sometimes. But I still do love it (it's Tristan James, by the way!)
