Which baby name?

I’m currently pregnant with my third girl and me and my partner have really struggled to agree on a name this time. Both our other daughters names begin with D and I wanted to try and carry this theme on, my partner on the other hand wasn’t too bothered what the name begun with. From the start I really have loved the name Daphne but my partner wasn’t too keen on it, no matter how many times we agree on a name I just know in my heart I truly don’t like it as Daphne is what I’d love. However we both do like the name Vienna, and it is a name I wouldn’t mind calling the baby. What name does everyone like better?

Daphne or Vienna?

the middle name has been determined from the start and that will begin with B.

Indeed it would.

Yeah, I'm sure some people will have found it interesting. Personally I wouldn't pick any of those names anyway, so I'm sorry I was probably the wrong audience for your insightful dissection of my throwaway comment.

I wrote it for anyone who was interested, so I'm fine with having expended a minute of spare brainpower on it.

ginasevern · 07/06/2025 17:39

Daphne is better. Vienna is pretty awful really.

CarpetKnees · 07/06/2025 17:49

At least Daphne is a name.

Wouldn't be my choice personally, but obviously we are all different.

I do think it is creating problems for all your dc to have the same initial though.

PlayDoh135 · 07/06/2025 17:53

Vienna reminds me of Rigsby's cat. I know, many people won't have the foggiest what I'm on about!😂Daphne is much nicer. Very elegant.

And I'm sure some will have found it jolly interesting.

Daphne makes me think of Scooby Doo. It’s awful. It’s not rude to dislike a name. All that matters is what you and your partner think. Any name will have its haters.

RuthW · 07/06/2025 18:08

Both nice. Daphne is nicer.

PanderBare · 07/06/2025 18:23

@PlayDoh135 , that's what I thought of too. Good Night, Vienna.

Firsttimebabymummy · 07/06/2025 18:31

Daphne by miles! Love that name

TheyreLikeUsButRichAndThin · 07/06/2025 18:36

No young child isn’t going to reference Scooby Doo these days.

I know a 3 year old Daphne, it’s fine. There are a few about thanks to the granny-chic and Bridgerton trends.

Personally I’d prefer something like Dulcie or Darcie.

Scooby Doo is very much still about. It's one of the only great kids cartoons from back in the day which is still going. It's not the same, mind, but kids definitely still watch it.

loopylalalu · 07/06/2025 20:12

Have what ever name you feel like just dont have any that my mother gave to her kids.
Mine as to be the worst but ive come to like it over the past 30+ years as its not very common neither are the rest lol.
Daphne is lovely.

None of the masses of kids I know, but fair enough! What’s wrong with the name making them think of Scooby Doo anyway?

mnahmnah · 07/06/2025 20:43

What about Delphi? Similar to Daphne

mathanxiety · 07/06/2025 20:54

Daphne.

Please do not call your child Vienna. It's a brand of excellent beef hotdogs in the US and also features in the song lyric 'Oh Vienna' which she would quickly tire of. By that I mean you'd all get the rage after six weeks.

It's a pretty name and a gorgeous city, but it wouldn't take long for some wag in her class as a teen to figure out It's called Wien in Austria, and it's just a short hop from there to wiener.

Sienna is much more widely used as a name.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 07/06/2025 21:00

Daphne, lovely, classy and unusual.

Vienna makes her sound like a 70s icecream.

I didn't say there's anything wrong with it, just that's the association kids will make.

Sadly some kids these days don't watch proper kids TV these days at all, it's all YouTube rubbish. Scooby Doo is still very well known though. In my experience, most are still very familiar with it even if it's not something they personally watch a lot.

I was thinking a similar thing! Adelaide and Sofia which predate the cities named after them have a totally different feel to Vienna, India etc.

But i don't think kids will be bothered at all by Vienna- doubt they'd get teased for it.

It's a pretty sound. So is Daphne, and I don't know any kids (mine are KS1 age) who watch Scooby Doo. Maybe it's for older kids? Never watched it myself so not sure! I think there's such a wide variety of names these days, OP is safe with either name. I prefer Daphne.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 08/06/2025 00:02

Daphne

Vienna is bloody terrible (sorry)

Viola and Vivia are both nice tho

Sunatlast01 · 08/06/2025 07:38

I don’t like Daphne at all sorry. Not keen on Vienna either and never heard of it as a girl’s name.

Choppedcoriander · 08/06/2025 07:51

Daphne is better.
Have you considered Vivien/ne or Diana?

PanderBare · 08/06/2025 09:08

They'll get shortened - Daph or Vee?

JillyGiraffe · 08/06/2025 09:19

Daphne! If I went to a playgroup and met a Daphne I’d think it was a pretty name, equally I love the name Sienna. But not so keen on Vienna.

Eenameenadeeka · 08/06/2025 09:40

Daphne is pretty but I wouldn't want them to all start with the same letter. Will it be your last child? Might run out of D names haha.

user1492757084 · 09/06/2025 13:17

I like both names.
I prefer Vienna.

I also like ..
Davina
Dulcie
Delphine
Adele
Genevieve
