Has your child grown to reflect their name meaning?

Light hearted wondering.

I realise there's always an element of generalisation to this but would love to hear anecdotes where your child's personality and temperament suit their name meaning really well

I have a teenage Caleb, which means 'wholehearted' and I can say this describes him to a T. He's all-in in anything he does.

A more accurate translation is dog-like and he's also that: loyal, friendly, trusting, happy. DH and I say if he had a tail it would always be wagging!

Just a great name for him.

I certainly hope not, for the sake of all the little Harrys, Claudias, Camerons or Cecilys!! Smile

Both of my dcs names have a religious meaning, they’re just ordinary names, so no big reference that’s immediately apparent. I’m an atheist, and so are they, so no.

MaggieBsBoat · 05/06/2025 12:33

Sadly yes. 😢

Just looked them up as I didn't pick names based on meanings. Nope and nope! Not remotely similar.

My daughter’s name has a few meanings:
Joyful friend.
Friend of peace.
Blessed peacemaking.
Fair and pure.

I’d say she’s exactly all of those things.

Blonde haired, blue eyed, she has grounded me and brought me peace in my darkest moments. I’ve never asked it of her, she’s still only little, but she’s saved me.
It’s her birthday today and I love watching her grow 💛

I didn’t pick mine based on meanings. However if dd1’s name means “messy, hormonal preteen who doesn’t listen” and dd2’s name means “tiny angry terrorist on crack” then yes, they live up to their names 😂

Abracadabra12 · 05/06/2025 13:16

She’s called Claudia so I hope not

I wish I hadn't picked Navaeh for my daughter! She's lleh!

My daughter's name means "very beautiful" in another language (won't say which as it's such a rare name and therefore outing) and she is absolutely stunning. People constantly remark on it.

One of mine has a Hebrew first name which is after a Prophet. So far he hasn't made it rain fire from the skies so fingers crossed. His middle name means happiness and he is the sunniest happiest little boy apart from when he wakes up on school days. He has always been very funny and looks for the bright side and humour since he was a baby.

His older sister has a Hebrew middle name which means Pleasant or Agreeable. As a toddler and little girl she definitely was very pleasant but since puberty "agreeable" is not on the agenda. Her first name is after a plant with thorns, this feels more accurate right now, but roses are very beautiful which is also true.

Another translation/meaning of Caleb is faithful (like a very good dog would be I guess). I like the idea of a happy boy who would wag his tail if he had one
