Sofia or Romy

Our baby girl is finally here and we still can’t decide on a name. Her big sisters are Ivy and Amelie. We think we’ve narrowed it down to Sofia or Romy. Thoughts?

Sofia is lovely. Personally I'm not a fan of Romy.

We love Sofia. Just worried it’s not unique enough as it’s pretty much the no.1 name all over the world including UK with both spellings Sophia/Sofia. We like the uniqueness of Romy, but worry we’re setting her up for a lifetime of mispronunciation. I’m in the thick of baby blues right now so my decision making skills are not on point!

It is a popular name, but it's because it's so beautiful! Timeless, as opposed to Romy which feels like a bit of a fad

Romy is a gorgeous name.

Sofia is more suited in style, and avoids all 3 ending in the same sound which can feel a bit samey/matchy.

I prefer Sofia as a name, although I do much prefer the Sophia spelling personally. Romy feels very nicknamey in comparison.

The suggestion of Sophie is a good one, if you are keen on another ie/y ending.

Ivy, Amelie and Sofia/Sophia sound like sisters.

If you are looking for other suggestions and are keen on the R name ending in y vibe, I think Ruby would work well with your other daughters' names.

I’m not sure if Romy is pronounced Rommy or ‘Rome’y..?

I know a Romy and this happens to her a lot! It is Rome-y but many people get it wrong. I wouldn't let that put you off though, I think it's a lovely name!

Sofia

Sofia goes better with the other names

I’d choose Romy, but both are nice. I think most people can pronounce Romy.

Our friend had a Romy recently and it caused a lot of debate wondering if it was Rommy or Romey. It still wouldn't put me off a name though, once someone is told how to say it that should be it.

Sofia.
Romy sounds like someone can't pronounce Rosemary properly.

Romy

There are so many Sophias/Sofias now.

I love the name Romy and would definitely go for that out of the two.
