All those names are lovely. Elegant and classic and just as suitable for an adult as for a baby.

You are entirely too sensible for MN Baby Names OP 😁

There are so many Freyas though especially Freya Rose. It’s on a par with Isla/Ava/Evie.

Username2151 · 30/05/2025 16:13

I think the name Rose is lovely.
Simple, timeless, short, easy to spell, easy to say, not much can go wrong with the pronunciation, isn't given to too many nicknames, maybe Ro, or Rosy.

PanderBare · 30/05/2025 16:31

Adams459 · 30/05/2025 13:19

@itsgettingweird Freya would be our first choice but it’s my daughters best friends name, so not sure!

I don't see the appeal of Freya. It makes me think of something frayed.
Fray-uh.

Curlysusie · 30/05/2025 16:39

Love Rose 🥰

KayEmAy · 30/05/2025 16:50

I love your whole list actually! But Rose is my favorite. Simple, classic and I actually don't think overused as a first name.

RedBeech · 30/05/2025 16:51

Gorgeous, classic name. Personally I prefer Rosa, with the softer, two syllable sound, but both are beautiful.

Zo33 · 30/05/2025 17:06

I have a very young Rose! A little miffed (perhaps due to hormones) that a documentary about the Wests is trending on Netflix but I tell myself her name is Rosemary, not Rose West. Yes, I know she’s known as Rose before someone helpfully points it out. 🙈

Go for it I say but I’m biased. We loved its simplicity and roses are just beautiful and make me smile when they’re in bloom. The anaesthetist doing my epidural said she won’t hate us one day too with such a normal name. 😂

Congratulations.

Slatterndisgrace · 30/05/2025 17:14

I think Rose is a beautiful name.

Coffeetostart · 30/05/2025 17:16

Love the name Rose, definitely top of the list.

chipshopElvis · 30/05/2025 17:32

It's lovely, simple but beautiful.

SwedishEdith · 30/05/2025 18:30

It's lovely. She'd be little Rosebud as a baby - to me, not the outside world 😄

ginasevern · 30/05/2025 18:37

Rose is beautiful and won't be shortened. It's a classic. Callie just sounds like a made up name (by trashy celebrity parents) and has neither strength nor beauty. More suited to a cat. Maeve and Isla are both lovely old traditional names but I expect are over popular.

Paljmens · 30/05/2025 18:41

I prefer Rosa

Sunshineclouds11 · 30/05/2025 18:43

I like it, along with Rosa

AnneMarieW · 30/05/2025 19:08

Rose is classic, elegant, romantic and relatively timeless, popular yet not overused (as a first name at least). Simple to spell and pronounce and known worldwide. IMO it’s one of the girls names with the most going for it.

Only negatives I can think of is that
there is little nn choice if that bothers you/her and that like most well used classic names, there will always be those who say it’s boring (though personally I’d rather a DC be interesting for reasons other than their name).

Firsttimebabymummy · 30/05/2025 19:18

Rose is gorgeous and my favourite from your list.
Also like Cora.

PanderBare · 30/05/2025 20:04

Rose is nicer than Rosa, IMO. Both are OK.
I'm basing my opinion on people I know who use the name, and they are Rose short for something longer.

mathanxiety · 30/05/2025 23:41

Rose is dull and a bit fusty.

I much prefer Maeve and Isla from your list

Rose- boring
Maeve- ok
Isla- pretty
Cora- pretty
Callie- is a shortening of Calliope which I like but sounds like a melon

HotHorseRadish · 31/05/2025 06:38

Love Rose and Rosie

PanderBare · 31/05/2025 09:33

@loobyloo1979 , sounds like a melon. The melon is cantaloupe (/ˈkæntəloʊp/ KAN-tə-lohp), which doesn't sound like Calliope (/kəˈlaɪ.əpi/ kə-LY-ə-pee)

TheeNotoriousPIG · 31/05/2025 13:18

Rather unhelpfully, I like all of your possible names, but Rose is clearly the best! It's an absolute classic, it is easy to spell and I don't think that it would be mistaken for anything else (though she is likely to get 'Rosie' as people like extending one-syllable names...).

I would consider Rose, but it doesn't go with my surname because both have a long 'O' sound in them...

onthewineagain · 31/05/2025 13:36

It’s a strange one. I had a doll called Rose when I was a kid because to me it was just generally accepted as the most beautiful flower ever and the most beautiful name ever.

But as a name, there’s something a little bit ugly / harsh about it. I don’t think the sound is particularly nice.

In saying that, I do still quite like it. As MN loves to say it’s “classic”.

It is, however, popular, if that bothers you. Although it seems to be consistantly quite popular, rather than faddy.

All in all, I do like it.
