Nature inspired girls names

Thank you everyone some great ideas. My favourite on my list is Wren, but my husband isn’t so sure.

Wren is sweet but quite trendy at the moment so may not be as unusual as you hoped for.

I think Dahlia is really pretty and different.

I really cannot understand why so many women want to name their daughters after things that are inert, delicate, helpless, and/or purely decorative. A few of the names on here escape these (in my view) very negative connotations, but not many. Sylvia and Aspen at least have a bit of strength to them.

Perhaps because they like the way the word sounds and don’t consider their child an embodiment of that word.

My daughter is called Rose. For me, it’s the most beautiful flower in the world and they never fail to make me smile when I see them in full bloom this time of the year. Cheesy yes but both apply to my daughter. She was also born when we see roses everywhere. And so what if it symbolises beauty - it doesn’t have to be merely superficial but spiritual too. I see nature as powerful, even flowers. Roses actually symbolise things like balance in certain Eastern cultures I think. I also loved how Rose sounded and looked and it worked with our other DC’s names and our surname.

My eldest is called May. Never come across another child with the same name. May heralds the start of summer and mayflowers are beautiful!

Sometimes things are just simple and pleasing and don’t have to be a huge deep statement.

Actually, I nearly mentioned Rose. I agree that roses have a distinct beauty, elegance and strength - and thorns! - that make them rather different. A very different league from daisies, marigolds, and dandelions!

I think people deserve thought and consideration to go into the name they must bear for their entire lives. I think "simple and pleasing" without much thought is a perfectly fine approach for many things, but not naming a child.

Obviously, we all aspire for our daughters to be wallflowers without agency @LimeSqueezer. Of course we do. It’s not that people just like beautiful floral names that have been used for centuries. Tell us more about how you’re so strong, and not like other women!

Nothing in my post remotely suggested that I think of myself as "so strong, not like other women." I differ from some of the women on this thread, particularly you, it seems, in wanting my daughter to go through life with a name that suggests strength rather than decorative helplessness. What I think of myself and what I want for my daughter are different.

What about Mimosa? My friend's daughter's name. Not too common but fresh.
