Hey! I’m trying to write a book and I love Finn but would prefer a longer name. I loved Finlay/Finley but thought it was a bit too feminine. What are name that have their nickname as Finn????

I know a Findlaech. (It's still pronounced Finley, but I find the spelling more masculine).

My Ds Fin (Finlay) is often called Finbalinna by his Ds. Not really what you asked for! 😁

Finn as a standalone name trumps them all imo. So handsome. Whilst short, it is a name in it's own right. I'd go for Finn.

Flynn is a nice alternative too, as a similar name with a cool twist. I still prefer Finn though.

With regards to Finlay, I don't think it's feminine (I know no girls called this and not aware of it becoming unisex). I do find it a bit infantile though. I do like Finlay, for a baby or small child, but I just can't imagine a grown adult called Finlay. I guess they're all Fin. Which is why I'd just opt for Finn in the first place.

Edit - sorry just realised you want it for a book character, you're not naming a child! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I know a Fingal which I think is really nice. Known as Finn so people do tend to assume he is called Finlay. Though I know someone who is just Finn too.

My son had a teacher (Irish) called Fintan which i think is really lovely, my favourite of the "Fin" names. He was absolutely gorgeous though and a lovely caring teacher which may have created an association in my mind, I admit!
