Sorry- second post!

Is Holly ‘dated’?

Her sibling is Ava.

Our other options still stand
Elsie
Callie
Isla
Erin

Also, our dog is Molly so we initially ruled it out! Is it still a no go?

It’s a lovely name

Roo0611 · 24/05/2025 11:53

@iwentjasonwaterfalls thanks! Callie is cute 🥰
Is her full name Callie? We would give it her as a full name!

We do also like Allie

@BoleynMemories13 @Gemstonebeach we also like Elin.
Erin or Elin?

Erin! Elin will get confused with Ellen.

Usernameaplenty · 24/05/2025 12:23

Hmm, not sure about Holly as it rhymes with your dog's name.

How about

Emily
Emilia

Roo0611 · 24/05/2025 12:27

@Usernameaplenty actually, on our shortlist originally was Emmie. We discounted as there seem to be a few at my little girls nursery but do still love it. Emilia/ Emily n Emmie could work.

We did originally think Ava and Emmie was cute!

Of all your names I like Erin best - but I wouldn't rule out Holly solely because of the dog. The dog's name can be changed if need be.

You could also do Olivia with Ollie as a shortening, though I've heard it's a very popular name these days (though I personally haven't met any).

Cocktailsandcheese · 24/05/2025 15:32

Holly is one of my absolute favourites, it's so lovely. Goes really nicely with Ava.

RuthW · 24/05/2025 16:39

Yes Holly is dated. Also you can’t have it with the dog’s name.

Firsttimebabymummy · 24/05/2025 17:01

Emanwenym · 24/05/2025 10:27

Lovely. Much nicer than the other names.

This!

BlooBear · 24/05/2025 17:17

Ava & Elin sound lovely together.
Holly is just a bit boring.
And with a Molly the dog = no.

ginasevern · 24/05/2025 17:20

There are loads of kids called your other suggestions. Holly will be different and it is lovely. Go for it.

Coatsoff42 · 24/05/2025 17:26

If you like Isla, on that vibe there are Scottish Islands called Cara, fara, and Iona. Which rhyme with Ava, and not the dog (Molly/holly)
theres also an island called muck, which would be unique lol.

Flossflower · 24/05/2025 17:51

Am I the only one that thinks of the Lou Reed song?

My name was fashionable and that dates me very precisely. Much better not to have a name that’s currently bang on trend. Also we have a Holly and that rhymes closely with another family name. Occasionally confusing when shouted but all absolutely fine.

Spinachpastapicker · 24/05/2025 18:08

I do like it but I think Ava and Callie go better together and it avoids the confusion with the dog.

Posters saying just change the dog name obviously don’t know dogs.

onwardsup4 · 24/05/2025 18:12

I love the name Holly but I wouldn’t use it if I had a dog called Molly

Newname7 · 24/05/2025 19:19

I am a (non Christmas baby) Holly! It is easy to spell and pronounce, there are a few around but not loads and it is generally well received. I would say go for it!

user1492757084 · 26/05/2025 06:34

Ava and Elin - gorgeous and my fave.

Also Ava and .
Isla
Ellen
Lila
Grace
Katharine
Audrey
Elizabeth
Olivia

The old Silver Screen Idols.
A name nice enough to be a friend of Ava Gardner.

girljulian · 26/05/2025 06:53

I like Holly very much! Elsie too. I think Isla is too common and too trendy; likewise Erin.

cheezncrackers · 24/05/2025 11:31

If the dog is called Molly, that would be a 'No' from me!

Holly is a bit Christmassy for spring too.

My friend Holly was born in May.
I work with April who was born in October.
My neighbour June was born in August

mathanxiety · 29/05/2025 16:04

Lovely name!

Ava and Holly is a great pairing. They both have a very soft sound.

I wouldn't consider it dated at all.

AdaColeman · 29/05/2025 16:32

I'd say Holly was quite dated and not a classic name, though pretty when used for a December baby. I don't think Holly and Molly is a very good idea!
Perhaps use a name from the same era as Ava, something equally glamorous.....
Lana
Sabine
Scarlett
Diana/Dinah
Merle
