Mabel or Imogen?

Our baby girl is due at the end of the month and we are still undecided! Our daughter is Phoebe Elizabeth.
We are thinking Imogen Charlotte or Mabel Alice. What do you think? Or offer any other suggestions!

Love Phoebe Elizabeth!

I think I’d pick Imogen Charlotte of your two choices. Or Alice, if that could be the first name!

Mabel is lovely but it seems to have come from nowhere and become really trendy, which would put me off. I only know Mabel’s under the age of three.

Imogen Charlotte is my favourite! Lovely combo of names. Sounds great with Pheobe too.

marypoppinsreturns · 07/05/2025 19:34

Imogen is lovely.

LlynTegid · 07/05/2025 19:36

Imogen would be my choice of the two.

Mabel is the name of a friend's dog!!

MrsKateColumbo · 07/05/2025 19:38

I Love Mabel, really pretty

LilyJosephine · 07/05/2025 19:59

Of the two, Imogen - really no contest. It’s much more classic sounding (a bit like Phoebe). While I do like simple May, Mabel is very “now” in that it’s a retro name that is currently fashionable again (see also Ada, Ivy, Elsie, Nancy etc) so it could date in future. I must admit my personal taste runs to the timeless, ultra classic though so I like your middle name choices (Charlotte or Alice) even more - I think Alice in particular goes really well with Phoebe.

I like Imogen better than Mabel, but I prefer Charlotte to either

Charlotte Imogen is nice

Constance
Ida
Esther
Stella
Marianne
Clio

might be others

Beamur · 07/05/2025 21:12

I like your middle name choices more - Charlotte or Alice 😁 with Mabel as a middle name

BernardButlersBra · 07/05/2025 21:35

Mabel

I don't like ether personally but its not my child. Mabel sounds really old fashioned for me and Imogen is entirely to common, I have a friend who just named their child Imogen Blaire. I like Charlotte but again its a v. popular name, Alice is sweet, it's my cousins middle name, first name Elisabeth.

Edited

I also know an EliSabeth Alice! Unusual with an ‘s’. She’s known by a shortened name though. Awesome kid - but then I am very biased 😍

My friend has a Labrador called Mabel …. 🫤

I really can’t see the very popular appeal of Imogen at all. I don’t like the sound.
Alice and Charlotte are both lovely

Congratulations 💕 I hope everything goes well x

My cousin is known as Bess, which i also find an unusual/old-fashoined choice for Elisabeth, not what I would have gone for, prefer Lizzie but it was her parents choice.

Imogen

Imogen is lovely and great pairing with phoebe- also like Immy- the one Imogen I know is beautiful inside and out - so biased

Springley · 08/05/2025 09:14

Imogen

But likely will be called Immy.

Great taste! Those were my top two names but DP vetoed both so our DD is Alexandra.

I like Alexandra better!

Imogen has been very popular for about 15 years now and my instinct is it will date.

Alice and Charlotte are more timeless classics.

Mabel I’m a bit torn. I think it’s cute and interesting to see some of these old lady names being revivified, but truthfully I’m not sure it’s a pretty sound and wouldn’t in all honesty use it myself.

Phoebe Elizabeth and ..

Imogen Alice
Mabel Charlotte
They sound better with the second names swapped.

Other suggestions ..
Alice Imogen
Charlotte Mabel.

All four names go great with Phoebe.

pilates · 08/05/2025 16:11

Imogen

Belle2023 · 08/05/2025 17:01

100% Mabel, it’s not over used and it’s really sweet and soft whereas Imogen is more of a mouth full and clunky like someone else said. Plus Mabel’s nicknames are much nicer… May, bell, Mabes, Em etc. Mabel goes better with Phoebe too

Tranquilitybaby · 30/05/2025 00:00

Imogen is much classier sounding, although I do love Mabel too.
