Ok guys, we’ve narrowed it down with 1 months to go. Ruby or Ivy?

I think they are both great names!

I voted for Ruby.

PenelopeK · 05/05/2025 21:22

Ivy!

toastofthetown · 05/05/2025 21:22

Ivy. Ruby feels a touch dated to me.

Firsttimebabymummy · 05/05/2025 21:29

I voted for Ivy. I don't LOVE either name, but I know about 5 dogs called Ruby, my mums parrot and a friends horse.

BoleynMemories13 · 05/05/2025 21:54

Both are nice, but I do prefer Ruby as it's less 'now'. Ivy has boomed over the last 10 years, and especially the last five. If I heard someone had a daughter Ivy, I would expect her to be under 10. Whereas Ruby has been well used for the last 20+ years now.

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/05/2025 22:33

I love Ivy - I know it’s popular but it would definitely be in my top choices if I had another girl - I just love the simple and strong but pretty sound of it. So easy to spell / pronounce too.

Ruby is lovely too - it’s a close second, but I’d rather be called Ivy myself, so had to pick that!

Proudmummy67 · 05/05/2025 22:38

Ivy

NuffSaidSam · 05/05/2025 22:41

Ruby.

Ivy is so very now that it will date badly.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 05/05/2025 23:18

I like them both, but think there are more Ivys right now so probably Ruby (but check)

I think Zoe and Nancy are similarly sparky and less common, if that matters to you

I reckon that’s a clincher!

I voted neither as they’re both just everywhere.

Emanwenym · 06/05/2025 12:55

I don't like Ivy at all. Ruby is OK. Ivy Tilsley - Wikipedia

harijes · 06/05/2025 12:59

I vote to wait till you meet her and then make final decision.

You know there are a million pre school Ivys right now?

Emanwenym · 07/05/2025 08:26

@theunbreakablecleopatrajones , there aren't a million of them but it is very popular now. That doesn't stop me thinking of Ivy Brennan though.
Babies called Ivy in England & Wales since 1996

It's part of the Evie/Ava/Eva/Evelyn and Isla/Lila trends.

RedOnyx · 07/05/2025 11:04

There seemed to be loads of Rubys about 10-15 years ago (when everyone I went to school with was having kids). I think it's died down a bit now. Not sure about Ivy - I only know one and she's about 10 now. Personally I think Ivy sounds prettier than Ruby. I also like Iris.

Pemba · 07/05/2025 12:09

I don't like Ivy and don't know why it's so popular right now. Don't like the sound, and it has a fusty Edwardian vibe, plus it's a parasitic plant.

Ruby by contrast is fun and sparky, and it's a vibrantly coloured precious stone. Yes it was very popular about 20 years ago, but that doesn't matter imo.

Emanwenym · 07/05/2025 18:38

@Pemba , Ivy makes me think of the thuggish weed too. I think it's popular because of the 'granny' nature names being popular, and because it has the same sort of sound as Ava, Evie and Isla.

Ruby makes me think of Upstairs Downstairs Smile

Hiyo · 07/05/2025 18:55

I strongly dislike Ivy, sorry :( I like Ruby

OopsieeDaisy · 07/05/2025 22:45

Much prefer Ruby personally, I can’t quite understand the popularity of Ivy!

Dustmylemonlies · 09/05/2025 08:20

I'm not massively keen on either but, if you put a gun to my head, I'd go with Ruby.

Ivy has been done to death. I know 5 of them under 12.
