Hi,

We are an Italian/Spanish speaking couple living in the UK. I was thinking about Ramón and I would be interested to know how locals find the sound of it

Other options are
Rio
Emilio
Luca
Alejandro
Diego
Tiago

Any other suggestion is welcome 🙂

Bonito.
Bruno.
Dante.
Enzo.
Fabio.
Marcello.
Marco.
Nico.

Oops that should have been Benito. 😂

I believe it sounds good in Spanish and English, but for Italians would be the same as calling him Adolf 😅

Thanks for the list. Nico, Enzo Marcelo definitely shortlisted. The other names are nice but I have cousins, exes or people in the family with those names.

Matteo
Damian

From the title I thought of Joe, which works phonetically if not written down.

polarsystem · 22/04/2025 17:45

Emilio is gorgeous.

HonoriaBulstrode · 22/04/2025 17:47

Leo or Leon?
Francisco, after the late Pope?

I quite like Ramón. Schoolfriends will probably make it Ray. Alejandro will probably be shortened too.

People will probably be most familiar with Rio, because of Rio Ferdinand the footballer.

StrongandNorthern · 22/04/2025 17:49

Luca is lovely.

Crumbs as someone whose late father was Italian, I apologise. I don't associate Benito with Mussolini but you're quite right.
It's a shame because the 'Ben' aspect simply makes me think 'good'! 😂

Oscar

There's Benedict - another Pope.

Moreteaandchocolate · 22/04/2025 18:14

I quite like Ramon - but it might get confused with Roman, if that bothers you?

I really like Rio, Luca and Diego from your list. Emilio is a bit frilly / feminine sounding and shortens to the feminine sounding “Em”. Alejandro is nice but will have pronunciation and spelling errors, as it’s similar to Alexander. Tiago is ok but less familiar to me than Diego - it could grow on me.

I like very much Leo 🙂

Edited

Rio would be my favourite, but Italians living in Italy don't like it. I don't think we'll end up living there, but it puts me down a bit.

Indeed I like Ben. Maybe it could be Benjamin or Benedict as someone else suggested

I really like Roman but dislike Ramon. It makes me think of jamon. I met one whose last name was Serrano and thought, what an unfortunate choice !

I'd scratch Alejandro from your list as it'll be butchered. The best you can hope for is "Alehandro"...

How about

Max / Maximiliano
Matias
Ezio if you like video games :)
Domingo is easy to pronounce and spell and can be shortened to Dom. Dominic works too for that matter.
Elias
