Was at church on Good Friday and the vicar mentioned the nane Bethany, as in the place. It made me think of Bethany if a different light, I've always liked Bethan but seen Bethany as a little dated and ditsy.

My niece is Bethany - or Beth. She's an adult. In think it's pretty and timeless.

It’s a bit breathy and insipid, like a blocked nose.

Wtf?

Love it!

I'm not keen on the sound of the full name (totally get both the blocked nose and pudding comments!). It was very overdone in the late 90s/ early 00s.

However, I do love the name Beth. Personally, I would opt for Elizabeth nn Beth though.

My dd is a Bethany. She is 20 now and we have only ever met 2 others. I am also a teacher and have only ever taught one Bethany. Love her name.

My name is Bethany! I’m really old though so I think I must’ve been the first person to be called it🤣 I like it though!

Me too- 47. How old are you?

50! 😆

@TheeNotoriousPIG , Bethan isn't timeless. It was hugely popular in Wales in the 1960s. It's not been used by Welsh-speaking parents for decades. It's a name that puts a woman in the 50-70 age bracket.

Babies called Bethan in England & Wales since 1996

Sunflowerso · 21/04/2025 18:08

Bit 90s.. will ultimately get shortened to Beth.

We have a 3 yo Bethany. Still very pleased with our choice (luckily!). It's known but not over-common, and (imo) a nice chnage from all the Eva/ Ava/ Ada/ Evie/ Elsie vowel-names for girls which are very common in her age group.

She reffered to herself as 'Betty' when she was first talking which was very unexpected but adorable and now get's Bethany but we like Beth too.
