Still early days but out of the names below which do you personally prefer for a boy and girl...

Ultimately I know it's our decision but just interesting to see what other people think, also I never know how popular or uncommon names are now and we dont like the idea of a super popular name

Boys:
Luca
Reggie
Blake
Reuben

Girls:
Luna
Lottie
Indie
Lilah

Reuben and Lila.

Mumofgirls2017 · 17/04/2025 06:58

I’d pick Reggie and Luna

both fairly popular probably top 50 or so but none in any of my children’s classes/ nursery

BumbleBeegu · 17/04/2025 07:54

The only name I ‘almost’ like (eg least dislike) is Reuben.

Reggie is awful…not only for the Kray Twins connection, it’s just not a nice name. A mum at my school has 4 year old twins (in Reception) called Ronnie and Reggie 🤦‍♀️😩 She actually said that she called them this BECAUSE of the Krays! Just bizarre 🥴

The other names are not ‘awful’ just not my taste.

Boys:
Luca - very popular name
Reggie - don’t like
Blake - ok
Reuben - don’t like

Girls:
Luna - dog name
Lottie - Charlotte
Indie - ok
Lilah - like but not this spelling

SilverButton · 17/04/2025 08:01

My favourites are Luca and Lila (I prefer without the h).

HugoYorway · 17/04/2025 09:00

Luca - too trendy
Reggie - cute
Blake - like
Reuben - a bit wet
Luna - no
Lottie - ok if short for Charlotte
Indie - no
Lilah - no

It looks like you are naming a baby when you're naming someone who will be an adult most of their life.

Reuben
I don’t really like any of the girl names. If pushed I’d chose Lilah but I think the spelling looks wrong somehow.

Agree.
Although I like Charlotte

The girl's names look a bit like the names of small non-shedding dogs. A friend has a canine Lottie.

@BoleynMemories13 ,Luca, Luke, Lucas and Lukas combined would be in the top 3, assuming that you'd be combining Theo and Theodore too.
Babies called Luca in England & Wales since 1996

So not number 1 then!

There's a reason ONS don't combine names, as it's not an exact science. Where would you stop? Just different spellings? Long forms and short forms of the same name? Similar names?

To me, Luca, Lucas and Luke are all different names. Similar, yes, but different enough not to be lumped together when people discuss popularity.

HugoYorway · 17/04/2025 16:58

They are different names.
I wouldn't say that David and David are the same name if one says it as Dayvid and the other as Dav-eed, but on paper they are the same.

Names like Darcy, Darcey and Darcie are different but not if you only hear them.

Mistyglade · 17/04/2025 17:08

Reuben and Luna are nice, not keen on the others, they’re very common around here.

MadKittenWoman · 17/04/2025 17:12

Reuben and Lilah, but I'd drop the 'h'.
